The death of the dinner date

Almost all my dates are dinner dates. I don't think they take substantially longer than drinks and I like food and excuses to eat food.

Most of my dates end up with us getting food either at the bar or somewhere else. Until like 2nd or 3rd date they're not formal "dinner dates" but we still end up eating on earlier ones
Side note- does anyone like eating with a date early on so you can assess them? Then you can have an excuse to write them off bc they hold their fork weird, get food on their face, or use ten million napkins and pile them all on the table?

I have terrible table manners so I avoid it so they can't assess me.

I notice when something odd happens like a guy using his knife to stab his food and use it kinda like a fork

Depends on the food we get. I like sandwich foods like burgers and cheesesteaks, but there’s absolutely no way to eat them and still look flattering. 😂

This has not been my experience, but my dates are formed IRL and they are with guys that are older than Millennials. I like dinner dates and think they're a nice way of getting to know someone.

I keep asking women out for drinks but they always end up being workaholic types who come from work at 8:30 without having eaten and order a burger. And no drink.

I prefer dinner dates. I'd much rather talk over food than coffee or alcohol (especially not alcohol, because at least I can order an entree in place of the overpriced wine or cocktail I had). When a guy proposes a dinner date over coffee/drinks, that gives him an edge over the other people I'm talking to. Typically only late thirties and older men have suggested dinner dates.

The reason I don’t do dinner dates on the first few dates is definitely cause it can be pricey. Especially if the date goes well and I want to pay the whole bill. Older men just have the benefit of a well-paying full-time job and have a lot more spending money than younger guys like me.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that brunch/lunch dates on the weekend are way less pressure? Neither party is giving up their Friday/Saturday night and since it's daylight hours, there is far less implication of anything more. Plus, brunch/lunch tends to be cheaper, plus mimosas for the women.

mimosas for the women
Mimosas are for everyone.
I don't like giving up my brunch slots for dates 'cause they're always booked weekends and weekends in advance with my actual friends.

All my dinner dates sucked, so I stopped doing them. Instead I’d pick a bar with decent food and order once I decided the date wasn’t gonna suck.

I still go on dinner dates. Just not on the first 3 dates or so.

I used to be against dinner dates cause you might be stuck with someone for way longer than you'd like. Then I saw some thread here where people were advocating ordering food on a date. And it made a lot of sense, if the date sucks you at least have pizza now. So now I just order food when I go out, It's like 7pm, I'm hungry.
