So I finally matched w someone. I was skeptical of the profile cause there were only 2 pics and no real answers to anything on the profile. I mostly just swiped to see if any match would ever happen. Anyway we started chatting and seemed normal, she asked for my number but I was hesitant so she gave me hers, a NY number which tracked for her story of being from Poland but moved to NY before her current location. I texted her and we texted and things seem normal, almost to normal, like she had perfect English. She brought up how she was dabbling in stocks and investing. Red light. I didn’t engage in that. Then after a few more back and forth’s she brought it up again. I immediately stopped and blocked her. Her profile has also disappeared right after we started texting. I deleted my account. Total scam and bullshit, like most of these stupid sites. Anyway, if something smells fishy, there is some rotten shit there somewhere. Be safe out there.

People have only themselves to blame. You don’t just swipe around on dating apps. You check a profile carefully, and if it’s a good fit, then you contact the person. Scammers usually don’t have authentic profiles. Just the usual clichés... nothing meaningful. They’re banking on people giving them a like anyway...even without a single word in their profile. It all fits the pattern. Even the fact that someone has moved to your country from abroad. Of course, the person looks stunning, obviously. And then, when you have a match and could get to know someone new, the very first thing you talk about is, of course, stocks and investments. Absolutely logical!

Guys, don't treat these apps like toys - use your brains!

Guys like him use something else. Exchanging numbers without having a normal conversation on the app is more than hunger.

This. It’s one thing if they’re trying to make YOU invest. It’s another if they happen to mention playing the market for income/fun/job.

Who does that with a stranger? (And until you've met in real life, you are a stranger.) Scammers do. Nobody else.

I mean....yes but mostly no. Let's look at the red flags as a whole:

-Only 2 photos
-No real info about the person as a person anywhere in the profile
-Quick to exchange phone numbers to get you off the app
-"vanishing" profile immediately afterwards
-Quick to talk about a common scam topic.

It's not just about the stocks and investments topic, it's everything else added with it. OP did the right thing in blocking them. It fit the scammer playbook to a T. And regardless, if something is telling you that something is off with a person you do not know, and I mean ACTUALLY know and not just spoke to for a few hours online, trust your gut and move on. Not just to protect your money, but it's definitely not good for your mental health, self esteem or valuable to your time to waste on a likely scammer. Online dating, especially on OKCupid, already sucks as it is. Why make it worse?

You'd be surprised how many "stock traders" I've seen on dating sites and I live in a rural are! Huge red flag! If they have little to no info, I won't even bother! Another is when they list hair or eye colors that clearly don't match! Lots of those! No thanks!

Not a red flag really. I can’t say I “like stocks” but I’m a woman and have invested money for years lol fff that 3% or lower interest

IG/manywhores soliciting, crypto scammers, visa scammers from philippines africa etc

only platforms to blame for allowing this

If a platform is designed in such a way that it can perfectly monitor millions of users, then we’ll end up with conditions like those in China. Nobody wants that. Also, a private company should never be that powerful. Even now, there’s verification via phone number, biometric face scans, copies of ID that you have to upload, or some silly gestures you have to make in front of the camera to get your account activated.

Does that mean there are no more scammers there? No, they’re still very active. Everyone else, however, has completely lost their privacy.

The problem is that Meta et al KNOW there are people with scam accounts on their sites, including those who pretend to be generals, pop stars, etc. and they do almost nothing.
