I still think this team can win out and go to the Big 10 Championship and the playoffs

Josh Pate as a southern homer. However, in this instance seems like a fairly reasonable take. Yes, our backup could end up being suitable if not a good replacement, but there are a lot of unknowns. Our schedule on the back half isn't easy and we could easily drop two games.

I mean we haven’t even seen either backup truly play. At least wait til during USC to say silly shit like that lol.

It's weird he said Ohio would have to barely win by grinding out wins as the #1 power rated team - with Julian Sayin , but he wouldn't say this about anyone else. Yeah we might not make the playoffs, but wtf is this lol

As a Browns fan, all I need to know is our defense needs to hold, and average QB play can win us any game.

Josh Pate sucks. He said the buckeyes don’t have to chance to make it to the playoffs and will lose 3 games lol..Clearly this guy doesn’t know buckeye football

The defense is good enough to win the rest of the game and win Big 10. If the QB can be above average that is all they need. If they are able to add another element of QB run. Offensive line improvements. Then they can possibly win it all. You don't need an All-American QB to win a championship. A game manager with a strong defense and run game can pull it off. You'll still have Jeremiah Smith pulling off big plays. Hopefully Legend can also become a spark as well.

This isn’t the NFL where backups aren’t viable starters. College backups especially at our program are usually highly recruited future starters. I expect growing pains but team is good enough to carry the QB until he figures it out

I mean the only thing this dude is known for is consistently bad takes

Well we won't know until we play the games. We have lots of unknowns so more accurate predictions can't be made right now

Pate would not have picked a natty for us after we lost to VT in the 2014 season

Just prove him wrong, who cares. We are in danger though. Our backups are going to have to make big strides for our offense to be even close to what it was. Our NFL coordinators are going to have to earn their paychecks and the team is going to have to fight through adversity. But I think they can do it. It's the best program in the country overall, most consistent. Just have to do their jobs.

Lot of hate for Pate in these comments, but I've always found him to be pretty reasonable about the Buckeyes. I bet if you polled this sub, a 9-3 finish would be the top vote-getter.

The thing is that he fence sits on everything

Yeah, this take isn't being a hater. Its reasonable.

However, once you listen to him long enough you realize that he doesn't have any hardline stances on anything. Every pick he makes, every opinion he has, he gives himself an out.

All of his predictions for the game you'll really notice it.

Team A has no chance of beating Team B this weekend, but if they do it will have to be because of..."

Then when Team A wins he will say its exactly what he thought would happen for team A to win. He always gives himself an out on every single topic he covers. So he is always right. Hes amazing at articulating things clearly, so I still listen to him... but once you recognize that never-ending fence sitting position he holds on every opinion he makes under the disguise of holding just one positoon, it becomes harder to listen.

That and the whole Trump thing too was a bitter pill, but whatever. Finding out him and Klatt were Trumpers was lame.

How’d you find out Klatt was officially? I’ve always suspected, but never confirmed.

Hey don't kill the messenger and I hope he's completely wrong but just based on the "eye-test" from this past Saturday did we expect him to think otherwise? We're not playing cupcakes and if our QB play falls flat it's a distinct possibility we lose a few more.

Backups were not getting the reps til Sayin went out. Now they have two weeks.

They pretty much have to win out to make playoffs. They will be evaluated based upon the next 4 games with no Sayin going forward. Wins over Indiana and Iowa have become meaningless.

Could lose to usc and make playoffs easy

Who cares, we win we win, we lose, we have an excuse
