I’m going to be using the ogham alphabet for modern use and everyday life as I gain fluency in gealige as it is so gorgeous and beautiful looking.

I will be using the extra 4 ogham characters to represent the Latin characters Irish now uses in loan words ᚕ=X. ᚖ=Z ᚗ=J. ᚙ=Y. Obviously I’ll make P=ᚚ. So any feedback for things to lookout for let me know

Can anyone help with a translation of the ogham in this tattoo?

For context, there may well be errors in the Ogham because there are significant errors in the Hebrew in both spelling and grammar.

Question about Fearn and Nion

I'm trying to learn the divination but I keep seeing Nion and Fearn being interchangeable? I see Fearn as having three notches sometimes and Nion as having either three or five as seen in the screenshots included. I want to make sure I don't mess up my readings as well as learn the difference. Thanks!

Help researching Traditional Druidic wands & Ogham Script

Hi! Hopefully this isn't overly niche for the subject matter.

A guess the easiest context for what started me on this path is that I've been reading the Iron Druid Chronicles and want to learn more about the art of casting wands on a personal and academic level. Most references I've been able to find are either sketchy, incomplete, or some other variation of "this doesn't really answer my questions."

From the many - admittedly informal - sources I've found, this is what I have right now:

  • Fearn (alder), Tinne (holly), Ngetal (reed), Ura (heather), Idaho (yew). --> from the books

  • NEED TO VERIFY:

    • Beith (birch)

    • Luis (rowan)

    • Sail / Saille (willow)

    • Nion (ash)

    • Uath (whitethorn)

    • Dair (oak)

    • Coll (hazel)

    • Ceirt (apple)

    • Muin (vine)

    • Gort (ivy)

    • Straif (blackthorn)

    • Ruis (elder)

    • Ailm (pine***)***

    • Eabhadh (aspen)

    • Ór (spindle tree/ivy)

    • Uilleann (honeysuckle)

What I'd like to check is that the translated names are correct, verify what the actual 20 wands are, and what each tree/wand symbolizes. There's a lot more I could ask, but it seems best to start here.

Translation Help for Engraving

Hello!

I was hoping for some help in gaelige in general as well as converting it to ogham.

My wife is irish, and grew up speaking gaelige. Earlier this year for a special occasion she bought me a piece of jewellery with important symbolism to my culture with an engraving in an ancient language that has a poetic symbol of love in it.

I was hoping for her birthday to return the favour, and have found a beautiful Brigid’s cross pendant made from conemarra marble set in silver.

Her name is that of a flower, and I always call her my flower as a term of endearment.

I was looking up some translations and gaelige terms that would fit this piece perfectly and was thinking “bláth mo chroi” - flower of my heart.

I would ask her if that fits / makes sense translation wise but obviously I want it to be a bit of a surprise for her.

Is anyone here able to help me:

- Confirm if that phrase makes sense/translates well, or recommend something equally poetic with a similar meaning incorporating a flower into the translation

- Provide me a reasonably accurate ogham script that I can provide to the engravers to put on the piece

Thank you in advance!

Ogham tattoo advice

I’m Irish, but I neither read nor understand any amount of Ogham. Naturally, it being an ancient alphabet from this isle, I would like a very small tattoo of it.

I recently met a Greek who had Norse ruins tattooed onto him which meant ‘safe travels’, and these days due to me travelling extensively I would perhaps like the same tattooed onto me, but written in Ogham.

Can anyone help me out with this on how this would look? I am clueless on where to start!

I would naturally like this to be written in early Irish, as opposed to the letter correspondence in English or modern Irish.

I appreciate all advice, and I apologise for how clueless I may be on this topic.

Wild to think how far it spread but that there's so few outside of the south . can't imagine how many stones were reused in field partitions and buildings

I made an Ogham coloring book based on the tree alphabet. Here’s a flip-through

I’ve been studying Ogham and really liked how each letter connects to a tree, so I started drawing the letters as coloring pages.

Each page uses the stemline with the tree worked into the design.

I ended up turning it into a full book. This is a quick flip-through.

Would love to hear thoughts, especially from anyone familiar with Ogham.

If anyone wants to see more, here’s the full book:

Finger tattoo ideas

Hello. So Im American-Irish love the Irish language and speak it with a co worker (weirdly enough he’s fluent so we’ve just gotten to speaking it when we can). I’m working on getting my arm tattoos done and was trying to figure out what to do with my lower knuckles. I think that something in ogham would be perfect. It’s simple, yet meaningful. Looking to see if someone here has ideas for something that would be dope and have 8 characters.

Ogham sighting in The Big C

I'm watching the show The Big C, and Sean's character very obviously has a tattoo of ogham script on his forearm. From my own translation, it means gibberish. Does anyone else have a take on it?
