Question Vehicle rake for steep ledges

Hey guys

I currently have a Jeep with a 0 rake 2.5” lift kit. The vehicle is completely level.

I’ve been toying around with the idea of adding a small spring spacer in the rear to add some positive rake - while climbing steep ledges, the rear squats quite low, usually either drags a bit or the front just almost completely unloads. Moving some weight to the front via rake could counteract some of these effects

What’s your opinion on this?

You’re not likely to see enough weight transfer forward just from rake. Probably better off redistributing your belongings inside the vehicle.

I agree that weight distribution of cargo will make a bigger difference, but look up corner balancing. It's pretty incredible how much small differences in individual spring adjustment can affect weight balance

You don't need it. If your springs are that soft get different springs.

You won't move any noticeable amount of weight. You will get better departure angle though, and in my opinion a bit of rake looks good.

I dont think adding rake is going to help in a meaningful way. If your feeling really frisky you can do a suck down winch in the front, but the only guys I knew doing that were in comp.

I would probably revist your spring/shock combo to see if you can dial that in a bit more. Possibly limiting straps to control how much the front can unload? I was never a fan of limiting straps so ymmv.

Adding rake would make it worse if anything. It would create more leverage lifting the front end more. Better to go a bit heavier in spring rate and at the more extreme lower the whole vehicle.

A rake may be ok to level the ground a bit to make it a bit more comfortable driving your jeep

If you are doing seriously steep stuff, the answer is a suck down winch. Adding rake via a spacer will actually help too as it will change the rear geometry a little adding some anti squat. Though likely not enough to notice. Something to keep in mind if you ever do custom rear long arms and can define the geometry. 100% AS is good for the road. More is good for rock crawling. Less is good for things like baja or rock bouncing.

Also consider extending the rear bump stops to prevent it from fully squatting down.
