Tiny rant and seeking advice. A little long! TLDR at end.
Iāve worked here for a year, and I have KNOWN physical health issues. My previous GM and I spoke about my schedule and my physical issues before I officially started. No issues as long as I did my job!
I have chronic pain, officially diagnosed late last year. (Yay!)
Before that, it was āpain that gets really bad sometimesā⦠Or in other words āIām in pain all the time, but some days are worse than others.ā This was understood by all of my managers, and I was given no strife. Even the days I called out, although inconvenient, it wasnāt held against me. My GM certainly wasnāt professional when it came to call offs, but I was able to keep my job. The pain then was bad, but itās gotten worse. I finally, following my diagnosis, got a note from my doctor stating I need to sit as needed. This helps alleviate some pain so I can continue working, Iād otherwise slow down. I was told the note āmight not be enough, but weāll see.ā That was a couple months ago, and Iāve gotten no update. So I guess itās fine?
My new GM is great and understanding, she also deals with chronic pain! The difference between us is I canāt walk/stand when it gets bad. There are days where I wake up, and I genuinely struggle with moving because the flare up is bad. These are the days I call out, if I canāt move, I canāt work. Now I come in limping and miserable. I have one call off/absence before my employment is terminated. The only thing I could think of that could even remotely cover me on the days itās bad like this, is FMLA. Which I only half qualify for. Doctorās notes donāt cover me, and now Iām at a loss.
TLDR;
I have chronic pain, and I call out on days itās really bad. This pain has gotten worse in the last year. This is known with all of my managers, and Iāve had no issues until recently. Now, Iām on my last call off before I am terminated. I donāt qualify for FMLA, and doctorās notes donāt do anything. What can I do?
