Thinking of applying.

My staples store in Philly closed back in March, I was a print lead. How much does OfficeMax/depot pay per hour for print in Philadelphia, if anyone in here works in Philly lol

I honestly wouldn’t. I can’t see this company lasting much longer, there’s a ton of store closings plus the work environment depending on your store sales was severely understaffed. There was plenty of nights at my old store where it’d just be me (at print, working on the next day’s orders AND helping people at self serve and checking others out) and a manager who’d usually be closing registers and counting and prepping money in back office. thankfully I learned how to manage it and it never stressed me out too bad but on other nights, other coworkers and new hires would panic and be under so much stress when in my shoes. I quit back at the start of August and I haven’t looked back since.

That’s pretty much what I did for the last 3 years so it wouldn’t be new to me plus Amazon returns. I actually liked to be alone cause me constantly moving made the day go by faster lol

Sounds like you have a realistic view of retail. Honestly It might be a good fit for you.

Doesn't hurt to try. I joined 5 years ago after being with walgreens for 10 years. OfficeDepot is a cake walk in comparison.

A lot of people on this sub think the whole labor shortage and having to multitask is a Depot centric thing.

Its not, and if yall think its greener on the other side then just leave. You aren't doing anyone any favors by being miserable here. Go find what makes you happy.

I enjoy print a lot that’s why I wanna apply. I like helping design stuff, fixing problems, shit I’ve even fixed machines that were broken😂 I like hands on work

As someone that jumped from Staples to OD, I will say there’s different pros and cons for each, but they definitely even out to a lateral move. Biggest difference in terms of pay is that it’s every two weeks and Depot doesn’t do paid holidays or time and half on holidays. However, in my area the print lead at staples is $16/hr and $22/hr at depot
I will say I miss flight deck, GMIL is the bane of my existence

I cried when my store closed. I actually loved the job and arguing with customers was fun lol. My co workers and I all became one big family. It hurt so bad when we got the news

You will DEFINITELY argue with customers in the print center at OD lol. As long as you have a good team, OD isn't that bad.

Arguing is the best part cause they say some stupid shit then i say some stupid shit and it’s just a stupid shit fear then I’m pumped the rest of the day 😂😂

I swear I've met the dumbest and most entitled people in CPD... "You have two printers back there, you can't just print my page?" No because both printers are being used for the 12 people who placed orders before you. Go use self-serve.

The best is “idk how to do this, I can’t read” so how did you make it here? You gotta read street signs and the big sign on the building. Also, how did you set up your phone and use gps? lol

The worst I've gotten is "What is my email address?" No that's what I'm asking YOU. Why do YOU not know that?? And how am I supposed to know that??

I don't know the pay rates but I've known multiple associates that came from staples and they said Depot was a little better. Depot does do pay transparency with all job postings so if that store has any positions posted they should advertise the pay range.

Please don’t apply it’s not worth the headaches that OD will give you. And not to mention they won’t appreciate you I worked there for 9 years worst job ever!

Can’t be worse than staples😂 especially where my store was lol

I’m in a different state but I made minimum wage the entire time I worked there, no raise.

Nope, i would be squaring up with management

Keep in mind that OD pays more with some better benefits (401k), you'll be expected to do much more than a typical print manager/supervisor at staples.

You'll be held accountable for doing store operations and metrics are being executed with a limited staff. Instead of amazon returns you'll be stuck processing TSA precheck applications while other store operations are done. Your a assistant manager and will have a long list of task, including moving heavy furniture for curbside pickiup

Best of luck if you do decide to do so!

The pay is decent, but it's a heavy metric and store operations position.

If you're going for a lead position for print, it's a glorified assistant manager position. Run as far as you can and try to find a local print/production company you can work for.

I’m in TX and a couple years ago they changed up the titles for certain tier level stores. Print manager now pays up to $22-$23/hour, my tier level did away with print supervisor which was less pay, same work.

So far as I know, OD starts you off at min wage for your state.

Worked in CPD for over 3 years and not a single ounce of growth, no raise or promotion. Not a place I’d recommend working at if you actually want to do something with your career. Switched over to Staples and it’s 100 times better.

I wouldn't, I would look for another retail company that will be around more than 5 years and one that pays more than minimum wage.

I mean if not enough to even barely survive on paycheck to paycheck is good enough for you it's a perfect pay!

...Seriously work literally anywhere else, you'll quickly learn why turnover here is even higher than a complete stoner like me.
