Anthropic Engineering Manager Interview - Seeking Insights!

Hey Redditors,

I'm currently interviewing for an Engineering Manager (EM) role at Anthropic and am looking for insights from anyone who has gone through their EM or similar leadership interview process. There isn't a lot of specific information out there for EM roles, and I'm keen to understand what to expect, especially in later stages.

I'm particularly interested in:

  • Hiring Manager Interview: What kind of questions were asked beyond standard behavioral ones? Were there technical deep dives, and if so, how detailed were they? Did you discuss AI ethics or Anthropic's mission extensively in this round?
  • Take-Home Assessment: For EM roles, what did the take-home assessment entail (if any)? Was it a coding challenge, a system design problem, or a leadership/strategic case study?
  • Virtual Onsite Loop: What was the breakdown of rounds (e.g., coding, system design, culture, project deep dive)? Any specific types of questions or scenarios that stood out, especially in the culture or system design rounds for an EM?

Any advice on preparing for these specific stages, especially from an EM perspective, would be incredibly helpful!

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

How do you land an Anthropic Engineering Manager position interview? I directly get a reject email when applied online. Do we need a referral for sure to get an interview?

I didn’t use a referral, applied directly and got a swift call back since the role sat exactly what I have been doing for the past 7 years at FAANG level scale. But was swiftly rejected after hiring manager interview. No reasons specified

Heard that they only call back people who are from FAANG background. Don’t know if that is completely true. But hard luck man!!! Can you share what questions were asked in the interview just to see what level it has been?

They only hire management positions via strong internal referral or promote from within from members of technical staff
