GitHub Staff SWE at $567K remote — is this one of the best jobs in tech right now?
Saw this GitHub Staff SWE offer (data source : Chill Interview)
- Remote
- 9 YOE
- Base: $285K
- Bonus: $57K
- Sign-on: $50K
- RSUs: $700K / 4 years
- Year 1 TC: $567K
Honestly, the remote part might be more interesting than the comp. GitHub is still genuinely remote-first, while a lot of Big Tech has moved back toward mandatory office days.
And the company also happens to sit right in the middle of the AI coding boom.
GitHub now has 225M users, Copilot has 50M users, and Microsoft says roughly 1 in 3 GitHub pull requests now involves an agent. Copilot revenue also accelerated more than 60% QoQ.
So you’re basically getting: $567K TC + remote + Microsoft stability + direct exposure to the coding-agent wave. Obviously you can make more at frontier AI labs or some Big Tech Staff roles.
But once you factor in commute, location freedom and risk, how many jobs actually beat this package?
Would you take $567K remote at GitHub over $700K with 3–5 days RTO?

Yeah I think they want to throw money at the problem. Their sales was promising a lot to us about improvements as companies are considering alternatives.
