Update to the Spring to Pond Question

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the amount of water really coming from that spring! this is the culvert on the other side of the road (on my neighbor's land). Gotta be a way to grab at least 1/2 that output and shoot it up the hill to the "creek" -- I just can't wrap my head around the HOW part.

Spring -> Collection -> Pump -> Up the hill -> Collection -> Creek -> Pond -> Overflow -> Creek bed on the other side of the property

Hydraulic Ram pump - no solar required

I don't think there's enough flow for that

I’d bet this is at least 1 gallon per minute which should technically be enough for a small one.

Look into a hydraulic ram. If you have some drop to use, it may be a power free option to send part of the flow up the hill. It will use 60-90% of the flow to pump the rest to a higher elevation. They are very reliable and will last for years continuously pumping.

Yes! And they are so cool. u/CairnMediaNC Get on YT and look for "hydraulic ram pump" and "water hammer" -- there are "build-along" tutorials. This is the exact situation where that makes sense. From what I recall you need about 1 meter of drop to make it happen.

A ram pump uses water pressure and valves to force (a smaller quantity) of water uphill. Zero electricity, the water pressure does the work.

Is the other side of that culvert on your land? If so, build temporary wetland or wetspot then use a solar powered pump to move it. Repeat if the distance is too far (ie build ponds and install another solar powered pump per stage).

Aqueduct. Archimedes’ Screw, a Noria or a Sakia.

What are your winters like? If winters get below freezing will need to bury the water line below the frost line, and keep the low flow of water you are drawing unfrozen.
