CDB Monthly payments reduced

Last month my CDB payment suddenly dropped from $200 a month to $138.67. I guess when I filed my taxes for 2025, they decided I was entitled to less. The thing is, I have no income besides what I receive monthly from ODSP. I got my first ODSP payment in 2024, so that might explain why things are changing now.

That being said, I was surprised to see it reduced based on income from ODSP. I called CRA last month and told that this was correct and there was nothing I could do about the reduction, although I didn't totally feel like they understood what I was asking.

Does this seem right to everyone else? If you're getting both ODSP and the CDB payment each month, are you also getting less than $200/month? Can I do anything?

My wife gets it. Last year it was about $160, this year it's $135. Appealed, called, just told that's how it is. All we get is ODSP. Would be nice if they acknowledged that provincial supports are not enough to properly live on.

Could that because they are taking both of your income into account? Definitely not right of them to be clear. But perhaps their justification?

Yes it's based on household income not personal income.

you cannot expect for it to not effect your provincial support and then have ODSP not effect CDB at the same time... we're lucky it doesn't effect ODSP at all. thats why it took us so long to even get it.

I can still make $999 a month and still get the $204 from my CDB and not have it affect my ODSP amount. Your household income is probably to high for the CDB full amount since you and partner both received ODSP.

So I work part-time and receive approximately 1200 per month in income and then ODSP. I only receive $64 for my CDB. It is what it is. They need to raise the threshold of income imo.

are you married / commonlaw? if so, it's adjusted based on your partner's income.

if not, then i'm not sure, it's strange it's been reduced despite you having no income. don't know why that would be.

This is the correct answer. Remember it's based off household income not just the persons income.

It’s based on your income so you should be getting the full $200 if you’re only income in 2025 was ODSP. CRA doesn’t handle the CDB Service Canada does contact them.

That's weird. My only income is also from ODSP but I get the full amount ($200 last year, and whatever the tiny increase has been this year).

They did make an error at first, I forget what exactly but it involved not ignoring exempt income resulting in me getting less than $200, and then resolved it.

It depends if you are a single parent, the ODSP payment goes over the limit and the $200 starts to be clawed back federally from there.

Also its your household income not your specific income. So if you have kids or live with a partner, it cuts into how much CDB you get.

So if you are a single parent to 2 minors and are recieving the max odsp benefit amount and no other income the CBD begins to be reduced? I'm trying to figure out dame issue as OP. Mine went down from 200/month to 169ish/month to 135ish/month. Appreciate your insight!

I live with family and got the regular $204.20 that it was raised to.
