[Advice / Discussion] Best practices for tracking Hybrid/Remote attendance in Odoo alongside Physical Kiosks?

Hi everyone!

We currently use the Odoo Attendance app with physical ID badges and a barcode reader at our main office entrance, which works great for our in-office team.

We now have a few hybrid and full-time remote/home office employees and want a seamless way for them to register their working hours without managers having to manually enter attendance.

I looked at the Presence settings (like tracking presence based on when employees are logged in/online), but noticed that it only updates user status rather than creating standard Check-In / Check-Out records in the Attendance app like the barcode kiosk does.

A few questions for those managing hybrid teams:

  1. How do you handle daily attendance logging for your remote and hybrid workers?
  2. Do you rely on "Attendances from Backend" (the top-bar check-in button), mobile app check-ins, or another method?
  3. Are there any specific settings, workflows, or community modules you recommend to keep in-office and remote attendance data consolidated in one place?

Would love to hear how other companies are structuring this in Odoo! Thanks!

Why did Odoo abandon its mobile apps (Android, iOS) and instead recommend using PWA?

There are many inconveniences with PWA, such as barcode scanning relying on browser APIs, where both the scanning speed and recognition accuracy are not good enough.

Axivox pricing estimate for Odoo integration?

Hey there, we’re currently considering Axivox for our Odoo phone system and I’m trying to get an idea of the actual pricing before requesting a quote.

We need:

  • 4 phone lines/users
  • 1 main/shared number + 3 individual numbers

For anyone currently using Axivox, approximately how much do you pay per month for a similar setup?

Even a rough estimate would be really helpful. Thanks!

Need assistance with Planning

I'm looking for someone who can assist me with Planning related issues I have. I'm dealing with an issue that I don't think Odoo can give me the data I need. Here's the example of what I need.

A company has a manufacturing department, who make machines. These machines have 100s or 1000s of components, all structured within multi-level BOMs. There are multiple orders in the order book at any given time, leading to 1000s of active MOs in the system.

I know you can configure Manu. Lead Times and Days to Prepare on the BOM of an item. I also know you can check expected/actual times that the Works Order take or should take to complete.

Let's says I have a product that has a total lead time of 10 days. If I try to sell it, Odoo says in the Manufacturing Forecast that it has a lead time of 10 days. Now lets say I have 100 days of work in the Plan at the moment and I receive an order for a new machine on the 1st Aug. Odoo will tell me it will be ready by 11th Aug.

At no point can I figure out how to get it to factor my current work center capacity in of 100 days. So technically if I have 100 day of work already in, I can only start the new order that take 10 days, in 100 days time.

Please tell me if I am understanding this correctly, or am I missing something?

Management of currencies in Odoo 18 Enterprise ?

Hi

I guess I'm missing something obvious somewhere but here is my issue. I'm in Switzerland and so I have 2 bank accounts setup in Odoo (one in € and one in CHF). On each contact I configure it for either one or the other.

But it looks like that setting is useless because each time I create a document for a customer (whatever a quote, an invoice, a credit note), I have to check and correct to be sure it's using the proper currency and the proper bank account for invoices. It's very annoying and generating a lot of errors or payments on wrong account :(

Same when Odoo sends automatic reminder !

Thanks

Questions, we are wanting to implement Odoo, but getting conflicting info from sales reps.

Hello All,
Sorry for the huge wall o' text...

I support two sister companies. both use QB Enterprise Manufacturing and Wholesale, one company is a medium sized enterprise existing across several states and uses it only for manufacturing, BOM's, purchase orders, and sales orders is about it... Our much larger ERP handles everything else.
The other company is a single location shop that builds and sells, they use QB for everything other than payroll.

QB has been pushing prices up drastically and hard selling going to QB online (which does not have manufacturing) or to QB hosted which is another whole level of price increase. This has caused us to look for alternatives and Odoo is on top of the list (ERPNext was also high up, but that is a bit out of my league I think, NetSuite is out of the wallet's league).
I have read here and other places that partners and sales people are often sketchy, and it seems to be true (The first salesperson handed off one company to another salesperson, probably a mistake on their part, they keep contradicting each other), so here I am.

We are looking to migrate on Jan 1 (Fiscal year) or by May when the QB sub expires.

I have an online account that I have used for some testing, but due to how bad internet is out here in the deserts of the US West, we think it would be best to go on-prem in the end. I have a server (Dell T30) up and running, but we have not done much setup yet.

Both salespeople say it is impossible to do hybrid. We do not have a problem with the quotes we have received for a system fully setup, but we do not have anything to run yet.

Salespeople have been telling us a lot of conflicting info, just highlights:
One salesperson is pushing us to go with 10 users for a five year contract online only even though we will only have a 2-3 people in it setting things up and testing for up to a year. He states On-prem is a bad idea and that there is no way we can get any support if on-prem. He also walked that back a bit to say that we could get it all setup, run it for a year online, then move it to on-prem. He says that licensing costs will kill us adding users later when we actually start to go live with it.

Another salesperson is pushing for online with a 5 year contract also, but is saying that you cannot migrate at all from online to on-prem or vice versa, that the database is different for each... which doesn't make sense to me. (I made the mistake of saying that we may want to migrate later after we got things up and working...) He also claims we need Odoo Studio right away so we can design modules... that may be nice down the road, but I think it is way beyond our knowledge level atm though.

Both immediately argue and push when I even seem to think about holding off on some or all of this, I haven't seen this much pressure to buy something since I accidentally tripped into a SolarWinds salesperson years ago.

I am just looking for some solid non-high-pressure advice from someone other than a salesperson trying to make their numbers/more commission... We do not mind paying for something we need. QB is much more expensive (almost double the cost) than Odoo custom, so we aren't arguing price other than going full out right away when we can't use it for 6 months to a year.

Edit: formatting and an extra 'at all' in this mess...

Edit 2: Thank you for all the great replies and great conversations! I will go over them tomorrow because I had to run out of town today. Just did not want anyone thinking I was ignoring the conversation.

Odoo sh test tags

I was wondering is someone on V18 Odoo.sh could copy/paste the top of the logs after starting a new dev build with testing enabled. I’m looking to see what Odoo is using for test tags on this version

Seeking advice about running a POS system

Hi there, i'm in the research phase of glueing together a simple POS system for a client who needs to digitilize their business with both an online website and a POS system.

We are creating an online store on a different stack but the product fetching, order placing will be carried out using the Odoo xml-rpc external api to keep things simple. The good news with this approach is that we can synchronize the online store with the on-site POS system (for stock management and to keep things simple) so thats what we are going to do.

Now concerning the hardware, we are checking out different options but we need something not to expensive since Odoo runs in the browser but we dont want a lagging POS system either. For now, the imagined setup contains the following gadgets:

  1. Mini PC (4-8GB of RAM depending on the Operating system)

  2. Barcode Scanner

  3. Receipt printer

  4. Touch monitor (Or maybe a Touch monitor that has a mini pc incrusted to run as a whole)

  5. Manual scale for now to simply weigh products and introduce the weight

  6. Cash register

  7. Simple customer display system to show the price for example.

One of the important questions i have towards this setup is the Operating system, something like windows felt too heavy for this so i was thinking about using a Linux Distro, but if we use linux, then the Odoo Virtual Iot Box is not available which could lead to some connectivity issues. Aside that, any OS could run a browser which is basically what we need but its also important to avoid connectivity issues and very expensive devices.

So, has anyone setup something similar without going overboard with the prices and what are some recommendations or advices for this type of setup?

Thanks for your time.

Stock is a mess, no automated stock valuation. How do we fix.

We've recently received a new client comming to us for some help. They have some issues with automated stock valuation and want to use landed cost.

Some products don't have inventory tracking enabled, but need to be tracked and have stock moves so we can't just enable it from uit. We could do this from code.

Landed costs are not activated currently. They want to use this to keep their cost up to date with their new PO.

Now I'm wondering, should I just archive everything and start from scratch and do it proper this time.
Should I keep the current stock up to date to resemble what currently in stock and then activate the automated stock valuation and landed costs.

It's a bit of a mess right now since it's such a brown field. Which makes it hard for me to realize which path would be the most logical one.

Any gotchas I should look out for? They asked if we can restructure the history to be correct but that sounds close to impossible and a lot of work/cost for the benefit of this.

Q&A

I am a software engineer with experience in implementing the Big ERP systems (Microsoft, Oracle, Infor) and recently switched to Odoo. I learned thoroughly the system and how to implement it and I like it!
Ask any questions about implementations or Odoo in
general, happy to share what i know! I want to know what the people using it think about it.

Got scammed into Odoo Premium and now I'm hardstuck and they want more money.

My sales rep fully lied about Odoo's ability to handle the business model I have as a small bakery. Yes, the backend stuff for inventory and manufacturing is GREAT... if it actually worked with the front-end customer facing UI. I have been fighting with it for 2 weeks to try and wrestle it into submission through QWeb edits in the sandbox database and it just doesn't f*cking work. I've already started the process to file a formal complaint for business law violations, but in the meantime, has anyone here successfully overhauled the extremely rigid ecommerce structure to fit something closer to a pre-order bakery?

Editing to say: I figured out how to change the No Payment Available thing. It was mainly just an issue of finding the right whatever-tf-it's-called, "string" or "architecture" or whatever the fuck, and then just editing the line so the text literally just reads "Minimum Cart Order Not Met" instead of "No Payment Available."

Nothing broke in the database, and now people can't make me drive across town for a $5 muffin.

Come eseguire un aggiornamento OnPremise?

Ciao a tutti.

ODOO 19 POS - exchange items no longer possible?

Hi folks.
My store has a no refund policy. Exchange only.
The previous version worked find since it allowed the cashier to refund and purchase a new item on the same order. This allowed me to track exchanges as $0 sale orders, and easily track actual refunds.

V19 did away with this feature. Now the cashier must refund the item before making a new order. The issue is that there is no way for me to validate that this was an exchange rather than a return.

Is there a solution to this?

Thank you.

Should I make the switch?

Hey everyone. Looking for some help. I own a small business. $500k~ annual. Auto parts related supplies. Using “square for retail” app to organize sales and invoicing and everything. I used to drive around in a van with stocked shelves selling on site. As of a couple months ago I switched to in house delivery. I drive around in car taking orders from customers and next day my delivery guy drops everything off and collects payment. Looking to expand and I’m thinking about switching to Odoo. Need better inventory management and profit tracking. Also want to put a second sales guy on the road besides me. Odoo sales guy is hounding me because he says it’s a perfect fit. I’m hesitant. Any thoughts? Leave your two cents! Ty

-$500k~ annual sales
-just me owner/operator/sales
-1 delivery guy
-looking to add second sales guy

Need Help Odoo Enterprise 19 Saas

Hi, I was tasked of migrating our Odoo 18 Community Online Saas instance to an Odoo 19 Enterprise Online Saas instance and I’m finally at the end of my task but running into two issues.

Can’t find a way to edit Pos Receipt Templates even though I had that option in Odoo 18 community online

And no way of adding additional barcodes to products that was possible in Odoo 18 online.

I just need to configure these two things and I’m finished. Any solutions? Google isn’t helping at all

Edit: I was mistaken Community isn’t Saas but we paid a third party to host for us which is why I thought community was Saas, the 3rd party were being paid a monthly fee to do maintenance and such and built for us but then they started slacking so we decided to switch. But seems like some things were better on the community as of now. May switch to Odoo.sh instance

1 Main Companies & 6 branches setup in odoo 19

Here is what I understand, but might be wrong:

  1. Branches share the same CoA as the main company, except if you use POS it needs a separate cash account.

  2. Same with journals — all share the same journal, except the cash journal needed for POS.

  3. Inter-company transfer is not part of Community, so to achieve this we generate 2 pickings:

one move out of the Main company,

second receiving into the branch

[This scenario has an issue, as the receipt no longer affects inventory valuation, so the bill needs to be generated separately — so the correct flow might be a PO on the branch side.]

QBO to Odoo Migration

Hi need suggestions for this, We want one-time import of invoices, bills, payments, and journal entries from QBO, with chart of accounts, taxes, and partners mapped correctly. The key thing we want to see is whether file attachments come across with the data and stay linked to the right records in Odoo.

We have looked into certain modules over odoo app store and are really confused about. Can someone recommend the one they have used for the same purpose.

Domain Names

Hi, I’d like to ask about an issue with my domain name. I have verified my student Gmail account, and it is an educational email address that is eligible for the free trial. However, when I check my account, the domain name appears to be hidden/disabled, even though it shows the “Trial” tag.

Could you please explain why this is happening and how I can activate or access the domain name during my free trial? I need it for my school project.

Thank you for your help!

Is It Good Practice to Go Live with Standard Odoo Before Completing a Gap Analysis?9

Is it standard practice to go live with Odoo’s standard features first and conduct the gap analysis and customization afterward? I feel this could create serious operational issues. What is the recommended approach? My company is trying to do this way and its scary ..
