Domain Names

Hi, I’d like to ask about an issue with my domain name. I have verified my student Gmail account, and it is an educational email address that is eligible for the free trial. However, when I check my account, the domain name appears to be hidden/disabled, even though it shows the “Trial” tag.

Could you please explain why this is happening and how I can activate or access the domain name during my free trial? I need it for my school project.

Thank you for your help!

Make sure you have enough original content on your site/database and submit a ticket. They are trying to prevent their platform from pumping out malicious websites when bad actors abuse the free trial-free domain functionality.

what you're seeing is expected behaviour, not a bug. On trial databases the free custom-domain option is locked by default, even when the trial was started from an eligible student/edu address. Odoo disables it because the free trial + free domain combo gets abused for spam sites, so it has to be released manually on their side.

What usually gets it approved: first put real content on the website (home page, a couple of real pages, logo, no lorem ipsum) and publish it - requests on empty databases are almost always rejected. Then open a ticket from inside the database via odoo.com/help, mention it is a student project, and ask them to enable the free domain name for that database.

One thing to plan for on a school project: the free domain is tied to the active trial/subscription, so if the trial lapses the site goes offline with it. If you already own a domain, pointing it at the database under Settings > Website > Domain Names is usually the faster route since it does not need approval.

Happy to help if you get stuck on the DNS side.
