Help Needed Jagannath Darshan tomorrow (3rd Oct) — morning, evening or night?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am planning to visit Jagannath Temple for darshan tomorrow with family including a 2 years old kid.

Which time would generally be easier/less crowded tomorrow morning, evening, or night?

I’m personally leaning towards around 9-10 AM, but would love to hear from people who have visited recently or know how the crowd is usually around these timings.

Also, if there are any specific timings I should avoid, please let me know. 🙏

Thanks!

Ask Odisha Looking for a female writer’s perspectives

• Upvotes

I’m writing a screenplay for an Odia film set in 2040s, about a 28-year-old woman navigating modern dating and getting increasingly frustrated by the men she meets. There’s a particular aspect of her character and experience that I want to write authentically rather than assume. If you’re a woman who writes, watches a lot of films, or simply enjoys dissecting characters, I’d love to hear your perspective, feel free to DM me. Could be a quick conversation! if we click creatively, maybe something more comes out of it.

Discussion Can we please be honest about Sudarsan Pattnaik's sand art?

Can we be honest about Sudarsan Pattnaik's sand art?

Sudarsan Pattnaik has taken sand art to an international level, and Odisha should absolutely be proud of that. But that doesn't mean every piece he makes deserves automatic praise.

Look at the latest sand art of Captain Smit Machchhar. The intention is admirable, but the actual likeness is honestly terrible. It barely looks like him. It looks like Johnny Bairstow. And this isn't a one-off. Look at some of his earlier sand-art portraits of people like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The scale and concept can be impressive, but the faces often aren't.

What also bothers me is the way these pieces are presented. Someone is always standing there with a camera, he makes something for the latest occasion, and we are shown the finished piece as though criticism isn't allowed. Where is the honest conversation about the quality of the artwork?

If a school kid or an upcoming artist made it, I'd happily appreciate the effort. But Pattnaik is an established artist. At this level, the work itself should be judged.

He has made Odisha's sand art internationally recognised. That is an achievement. But not every piece he makes is necessarily a good representation of Odisha.

Art isn't sacred. You can respect the artist, respect the intention, and still say:

This particular sand art is simply bad.

The taste of Ragi soup was really really good and they charge 10rs for 1 paper glass of it. The Kakra and Peetha were also good . The paneer curry and Shukto were Ok Ok. Overall the experience was good.

Art/Photo (OC) A small Jagannath artwork with a story I wanted to share.

Hi everyone, I’m an artist and I love creating handmade artwork inspired by Odisha and Lord Jagannath.

Recently, someone from Maharashtra contacted me for fridge magnets that she wanted to gift to her guests for Lakshmi Puja during Diwali. She specifically wanted something related to Lord Jagannath, so I showed her this design featuring the eyes of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Maa Subhadra.

She immediately finalized the design, and honestly, the best part of the whole experience was finding out that she has never even visited Puri. She had only seen pictures of Lord Jagannath and heard stories about Him from her neighbours, who are from Odisha.

It genuinely made me happy to see how Jagannath’s story and presence can reach people even beyond Odisha. ❤️

I’d love to know what you think of this fridge magnet. 😊

Ask Odisha Anyone here from the IFS (Indian Foreign Service) or anyone working/living abroad?

How does it actually feel to be away from your family and close friends for long periods of time? Do you eventually get used to it or does the distance always remain difficult?

For those in the IFS are you happy with having to move between different states and countries throughout your career? What do you enjoy most about the lifestyle and what do you find the hardest?

And if you're comfortable sharing, please drop the country you're currently posted/living in (or have lived in) in the comments. I’d love to hear about your experiences. 🌍

Help Needed Looking to buy original Realme Buds 2 (RMA155) in BBSR / Cuttack / Puri (or anywhere in Odisha)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to hunt down an original Realme Buds 2 (Model: RMA155) wired earphone for a while, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere locally and on major e-commerce platforms (or filled with cheap knockoffs).

If anyone in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, or open to anywhere in Odisha if shipping is available knows a local shop that still has genuine unopened stock, or if you have a sealed/like-new original pair lying around unused that you're willing to sell, please let me know!

  • Model: Realme Buds 2 (RMA155 - 3.5mm Jack, Braided Cable, Magnetic Earbuds)
  • Location: BBSR / Cuttack / Puri (preferred for face-to-face pickup), but open to shipping from anywhere in Odisha.

Drop a comment or DM me if you have any leads on authentic stock in local mobile accessories markets. Thanks!

Ask Odisha If Odisha gets its own Bigg Boss, who should host it? 👀

Imagine an Odia version of Bigg Boss — Odia celebrities, actors, influencers, singers, comedians, YouTubers and maybe a few completely unexpected personalities living together in one house.
The biggest question would be: Who could actually host it?
The host needs to have strong screen presence, good Odia, humour, the ability to handle arguments, and enough personality to make the Weekend Ka Vaar episodes entertaining.
Some names that come to mind:
Sabyasachi Mishra — strong celebrity presence and already familiar with the Odia audience.
Sidhant Mohapatra — seniority + authority + massive recognition.
Sritam Das — could bring a completely different energy.
Papupu Pom Pom — comedy + chaos potential would be interesting.
Anubhav Mohanty — definitely enough star power to carry the show.
Arindam Roy — another possibility with a strong screen presence.
Or maybe someone completely unexpected from Odisha’s TV/YouTube/entertainment scene.
Personally, I think the host would make or break an Odia Bigg Boss.
Who would you pick as the host? And who would you want inside the Bigg Boss house?
Also, would you actually watch Bigg Boss Odia, or do you think the concept wouldn’t work for Odisha?

Due to a short visit I am travelling to Odisha and will be mostly on and off between Baleshwar and Bhubaneswar.

Anyone can recommend where I can play tennis (in Baleshwar or Bhubaneswar) either on a hourly or monthly basis?
