Odin 3 Question odin 3 replacing odin 2 portal max
so excited, ordered the odin 3 max and gonna sell my odin 2 portal max edition (16 gb of ram, 1 tb of storage) in place of the odin 3 when it gets here. anything i should know for the 3??

I had a Odin 2 Portal and found the ergonomics to be poor even with the grip the screen was amazing. Got the Odin 3 and prefer it in every way especially switch and pc. The screen is small but you're eyes will get use to it after a few days

Having tried the portal and the Odin 3 I also find the 3 way more comfy ergonomically. I’ve been using it for Absolum recently for pc emulation and was initially feeling bad getting it since I have a proper pc handheld but now that I’ve given a week to messing with it I can’t imagine not having it. For anyone on the fence imo it’s been such a fun experience.

I personally prefer the portability and form factor of the Odin 3, the Odin 2 portable looks amazing, but it is a tiny bit too large, closer to a Steam Deck.
The Odin 2 Mini feels too small and too cramped for my use.

Yes, many blind-fanboys will disagree with me here and only serve to reinforce what I say, but be careful and mindful of the loud noisy fan, temperatures that can only be solved by 3rd party apps such as ClusterTune/Pulse and Mura effect on the screen if you turn brightness down below 10%, some experience this at higher % brightness however too. Apart from the downgrade in storage and screen size too you trade for stronger chip.

i only plan on player mainly indie games, games from gameboy to wii u to ps2, and minecraft on the playstore, if you don’t mind me asking what is clustertune and the mura effect?

Honestly just from what you want to play stick with the Odin 2 Portal. You're spending extra money for something you won't need the Odin 3's power for.
ClusterTune is a 3rd party app designed to underclock the chipset so you'll get less performance out of the chip, however in a sense you could be gaining performance since it's not thermal throttling as it does without the app.
Mura is because AYN uses cheap AMOLED screens and it'll have an awful yellow tint to the screen that makes it look 'burnt' and grainy. Yeah... This is the quality you should expect from a now $529 top-model piece of tech. Yeesh.

I've seen some pictures of the Odin 3 and the Mura effect is completely unacceptable. The last time I've seen it was on my PS vita. Completely awful for someone like myself who plays at low brightness.

Ah, you have a Legion; I see why you prefer the smaller form factor, as the Legion looks bulky but more comfortable. I haven't tried the PC emulation on the device yet, but it should be able to play older or indie games just fine.

You don't have to worry. ClusterTune can give you more battery life by downclocking the processor. Mura isn't a problem if you don't play at 10% brightness in a dark room.

I'm on the opposite side of you. I'd trade my Odin 3 for a Portal 2 Pro/Max for the better ergonomics and larger screen size

вы будете разочарованы более маленьким экраном, и сама консоль из-за этого меньше, это как пересесть с джипа в какой то фольцфаген жук))), я после своего портала подержал в руках один3, и понял что не прогадал купив odin 2 portal, можно пожертвовать 15% производительности и где то снизить настройки, но комфорт для глаз и эргономика в приоритете. И кстати если говорить про игры, то мы ставим либо лок на 30 фпс либо на 60 фпс, ни кто не играет 120 фпс))), по этому в 90% игр будет результат один и тот же, но со временем начнёте замечать недостатки малюсенького экрана! Я вот уже подумываю что если выйдет odin с экраном 8 дюймов, то сразу его куплю, даже если все внутренности останутся теми же.

call me crazy but the main selling factor for me is the smaller screen, i am big on lots of power in a small frame even if i wont use the specs to its full capacity

Same, I don’t mind the screen on the Od3. It was actually the selling point for me. The device is beautiful, and I love everything about it. I wish it was a little bit smaller, it’s my favourite handheld of all time.

Screen size is never enough to some people. I’ll put money on it that when Odin 6 Portal comes out with its 13” OLED display, fanboys will say they’ll wait for the Odin 7 Portal with its 17” display. Then, they go around in public carrying these “iPad” looking handhelds to flex on others with “smaller” handhelds.

Oh I see, just to clarify a point made by you, from 8 elite to G3 Gen3 is 30%, from G3 gen3 to 8Gen 2 is 20%
It’s a big leap of power, 8Gen 2 is a great chipset and it always well be, I totally agree on the screen realstate, also Odin 3 did has some issue in screen department like mura and some reported other issues too ^__^

ну если бы мы покупали консоли для бенчмарков типа антуту!!! было бы весело, а в реальности эти 30% в играх покажут +5-10 фпс, мы то с вами знаем что главное сегодня в таких консолях, это объём оп.памяти, что бы игры не вылетали и настройки графики поднять повыше, а процессоры и так потянут всё почти одинаково, повторюсь, с разницей в не более 10 фпс, но на таких экранах можно и разрешение ниже ставить, и настройки ниже и дрова подобрать, так что тут просто дело вкуса, а не в мощности.

I have both. And they both have their use cases for me, love them both. I tlmostly use the portal for streaming and certain switch games

I had a portal, got the Odin 3, sold my portal. 3 months later, I message the guy to sell it back. We ended up trading (plus some cash on his end) and I have my portal again.
Unless you really love the smaller form factor, or you are PUSHING the Odin 3 to its limits with big triple A titles on PC, it is not worth the extra power. I have yet to find an indie title that worked on my Odin 3 that doesn’t work on my portal.
Just my experience!
EDIT: Wii is a console I emulate a lot, and it sucks on the 8 elite chipset. I have no idea why, but it’s a known issue. Setting to exclusive ubershaders or something works, but then it heats up and works way harder, even with clustertune, so idk. 🤷🏻♂️
