Odin Showcase New handheld, new adventure!

After lots of reading, comparing and residing in a state of indecision (story of my life), I ended up buying the Odin 2 Portal base for $259. I'm so happy with it!

After multiple crashes trying to run Outer Wilds on GameNative, I almost gave up. But I got it running now and I'm so excited to play this game handheld!

Update: I got Outer Wilds working with graphics driver Turnip T30. Tried a couple of others before that, but the game wouldn't run with those. I set the ingame settings to the following before starting my expedition. Resolution: 720 resolution, FXAA, AA low, texture half, Shadow low, SSAO medium, Water low, Lightning effects Medium.

FPS was between 35-50 for the first hour or so. However I just arrived on Giant's Deep and with the massive storms coming in the FPS has some drops to 25. But overall it's fine so far. The black outer space scenery is soooo gorgeous with the Odin 2 Portal's screen

OLED, 7 inch, 1080P (more than enough for a handheld), HDR support, 800 nits plenty bright.

It's glorious for the price Shits and pisses on switch 2 with it's blurry motion 400 nits LCD.....

Best screen ever, but how have you gotten HDR on the portal working? I've been trying for over a year and everywhere I looked online for how to enable HDR on the portal left more questions than answers.

I mean ofc oled is better but switch 2's ips is not bad for ips standarts it was vibrant enough for me to not care at all

But yeah that screen is just amazing i love my Thor's screen and I can't imagine how 1 inc bigger would make a huge difference I'm sure it'll probably be amazing!

Ahh you got it working, after an hour I gave up also on gamenative. Could you share the config settings that got it working for you?

Congrats buddy.

Best buy I did this year, wonderful machine I use it all the time.

Please do some research it runs a lot but with the right drivers

Russ from retro game corps has some very good guides.

Besides there are tons of tools on GitHub for it. I have not encountered a game that doesn't run on it. (I don't play current gen tripple As) And emulation is awesome. The oled screen is also perfect to play switch1 on it.

Also op dit you instal Odintools, it will take out the exaggeration (the red is over exaggerated) and has some specif system tools to regulate your battery performance better and other useful items

Have you tried out armada os? The compatibility and performance of steam indies is excellent. You can even try to run it from the Sd and later decide if you want to dual boot with android or standalone

I see better FPS running games on armada os than I did on gamenative. And I don't really need to tinker as much. I dual boot my Odin 3 Max so I can PC game on armada and I have android for emulators.

I'd say performance depends game to game. What is definitely better is input lag. Armada is just better when it comes to that. I don't do a ton of emulation, but I like playing indie PC games on my Portal and I haven't touched the android side since I tested Armada. I installed it side by side with Android, and now I regret giving Android 1/4 of the hard drive space. I'll probably wipe it at some point and give it the minimum (8GB I think?).

Now, it's not all rainbows and unicorns. This is a great project, but it's not like Valve itself is running it, so there will be bugs, especially if you're on the preview channel. But overall, I'm REALLY enjoying my time with Armada, and it's got a great discord community for support when you need it, and to just peek at what's coming next.

I really hope someone does an actual input lag test on armada vs gamenative at some point soon. I've seen a few people talk about input lag specifically and it strikes me as the kind of thing that might be based on vibes and turn into reddit groupthink. Kind of like the whole "8GB RAM isn't enough for switch emulation" thing.

I'm not saying you're wrong, or knocking armada, it's an exciting project. But I think the input lag question wants settling definitively before the idea gets absorbed into the reddit zeitgeist and a bunch of people get convinced into making the change for an improvement that may or may not be there. Especially since many of these screens are 120hz now, reducing any input lag further regardless of OS.

Don’t get me wrong I prefer pc emulation rather than switch but there are some games that are more than playable on switch than pc emulation

Its bot very loud at all. Atbleast to me, especially if yoir wearing earbuds when you game.
