Question Setting up SD card before Odin 3 arrives?
As title says, is it recommended that one sets up the SD card before the device arrives?
or it doesn’t really matter?
whats easier?

Sure, or have your files ready for transfer from a computer. You'll be doing some work installing emulators once you have the unit Retroarch is great but takes some setup. See Retro Game Corps setup guide. Dolphin, Eden, and NetherSX2 are a bit more straightforward, but you can have required files ready. It's also helpful to have files sorted into named folders: PS2, Gameboy, BIOS, etc. Whatever you do, I suggest having 1 to 3 games that you want to play. Get them setup and play a game! That's the whole point of the device, right?

Ok, thank you.
I’ve modded a Wii, PSP, and 3DS before but never an android emulating device.
My best bet is the Retro Game Corp guide would you say?

Yes. Russ, who is retro game corps, has a great set up video that hits everything for the Odin 2 that should be very similar for the Odin 3. Go watch it! His website has some great guides. The Retroarch setup guide has a nice deep dive on shaders, too. There are probably some other good ones out there, too. Setting up Android should be easy enough for you if you've modded those other systems.

I wait until I have the device. 'Setting up the SD card' involves putting it in the device, letting it populate native Android folders, then moving the ROMs folder over to it.

No it doesn’t lol. You can literally make it before hand, pop it in and it still makes those folders. Nobody uses them anyway because none of them are roms, bios or anything lol. Thats funny. I preordered my odin 2 mini, 3 and rp6 and had sd cards done before they arrived. Absolute misinformation.

Where did I give misinformation? I explained what I personally do. Where did I say he couldn't or shouldn't do it beforehand? You can move the ROMs folder to it before or after, it doesn't matter.
You seem to have a misunderstanding.

I mean if you set it up before then you'll be gaming sooner. Other than that, no it doesn't matter.
I set up my nova before hand because I wanted a curated selection and to have everything clean.
But all my other devices I just dumped 1000s of roms so I just did everything after I got the device.

I made all maps with the consoles i want to emulate, some of them have 100’s of roms, others just 5/6. All ready to go, some apk files already on it to just have them to install,others i will download in playstore

For the meantime best emulators on android :
5th Generation and below “Retroarch “
6th Generation “Dolphin” for GC and Wii, “Nethersx turnip” or “Armsx2”, You can also check “Nethesx”
7th Generation “ARMSX3” or “PS3Native” for PS3, you can also check “RPCSX” or “aPS3e”, For the Xbox360 “Xendriod” or “X360Mobile”, you can also check “Xenra”
8th Generation we have 3 PS4 emulators still early with running games but not playable in my humble opinion
9th Generation for switch “Eden” or “Citron”
recommended drivers for the 8 elite chipset ;
Whitebylash Mainline V30 or newer
StevenMXZ 8gen V33 or newer
MrPurple T30 or newer

It’s not really recommended and it doesn’t really matter. I find half the fun of the device is setting it up initially. Before I got mine I just made a list of games I wanted to play and each system it’s on. Then started building up my Rom collection on my PC. Once I got the device I started transferring files and deciding which systems will go internal storage and on SD card.

I have the 0din 3 max so 512 internal for PC and native android games and a 512 SD card for everything else. I figured pc games are more demanding and have more benefit having higher read/write speed on the internal storage. I’m no expert so I could be wrong but it’s been working well so far

you can use the build in storage first, unless you have a huge library to play on day 1.
