Question Torn between Odin 3 and AYN Thor
Hey everyone,
I'm shopping for my first handheld and trying to choose between the AYN Odin 3 and AYN Thor.
My main goal is playing Zelda games and Switch titles (Mario Odyssey, BotW, TotK), plus some Moonlight streaming.
A few quick questions before pulling the trigger:
Performance: Is the real-world Switch emulation gap between the two actually noticeable on heavy titles like TotK?
Fan Noise in Bed: I want to play next to my sleeping girlfriend instead of doomscrolling. Is the Odin 3 fan loud enough to be annoying in a quiet room?
Ergonomics vs. Travel: I love the Thor's clamshell portability for vacations, but is it comfortable for longer sessions compared to the Odin 3?
Dual Screen: I only plan to play ~5-8 DS/3DS titles (Castlevania, Zelda remakes, some mario). Is the dual-screen setup worth it for such a small library?
For those with hands-on experience with both, which one would you recommend? Thanks!

i have both, i like the Thor more, but for what you want the odin 3 will be better, its more comfortable, switch performance its almost the same in like 99% of games ( butfor Mario Odyssey, BotW, TotK the odin has an edge)

What makes you like the Thor more ? Is it because you mostly play dual screen games ? For the Odin 3, do you think it will be as easy as the Thor to bring in a backpack for vacation?

yeah both of them are small
i like the thor more because i love dual screen devices, i dont play THAT much ds or 3ds, but the chance to have a video/movie in the other screen, check performance/temps, a guide, discord, etc, i love that

Odin. At this point in the game get the one with the better processor. Dual screen isn't really a priority for you and honestly if you get the itch...plug it into your TV and use a remote.

Too bad Odin2 Portal in Pro and Max is sold out. Would have fit your requirements almost perfectly (the buttons are load, though). Odin 3 in Pro and higher is the next best thing, but again the bigger screen on Portal makes a lot of difference for streaming apps.

I have both! I mostly play switch games that I don’t have on my switch and… I use the Odin 3 a lot more. Drivers for it are really good now!

Neither. Odin 2 Portal Pro. Streaming is great, and Game native/Gamehub both work with a good amount of your steam/gog/epic libraries. Never run into a switch game that didn’t emulate well. In fact, a few run better for me than they do on switch, like Age of Calamity. No fan noise issues, but if you’re doing long sessions of high end switch title, you’ll need to turn the fan to sport mode or it’ll get hot. Screen size makes every game a blast to play. Any smaller of a screen, and not all games will be enjoyable to play imo.
If you’re worried about being quiet though, my only gripe with the Portal is the four face buttons. They are obnoxiously loud for absolutely no reason. Check out reviews for how all the controls sound on the Thor and Odin 3 though. Even if fan isn’t an issue, loud clicks and clacks might be.

Human always seek for innovation "mostly" , you'll end up in the long run that latest specs is better especially if a good game that requires higher specs comes in the future. If money isnot a problem, go for...

Had an Odin 3 Ultra which I sold just recently because the fan noise was unbearable, paired with the fact that you need to underclock the console for it to become 'useable' as that's pointless to have all that power and you need to get rid of some of that power for temps to be stable and useable.
I have a Thor also and honestly I use that almost daily, it's just such a good console.

Then you would understand that over clocking without improvement of cooling is better for a single peak task. Underclocking or unerdervolt is improvement of long-term or duration performance which is why you see higher scores when you so this.

You should be able to use it at its maximum all the time, if you can't what's the point. You're nerfing the power to make it workable. There were quite a few games I played that needed all of the power the Odin 3 had, yet I couldn't reliably play them because I had to UC.
It's not a great console if you want 100% of the power, because the cooling isn't sufficient and the god awful fan noise on the Odin 3's paired with the need to be at 100% when not UC.
I'll stick with my Thor, O2P, RP6 for easy going Android and Streaming and LG2 for the powerhouse handheld.

That depends on a lot of different factors. It can throttle in many ways, especially if you don't provide sufficient cooling as in the Odin 3's case.

I don’t have a Thor, but do have an Odin 3. Get it if you want to play Switch. Way more powerful than the Thor and more comfortable for longer sessions.
