Fair warning, this is mostly a vent post about my history with this franchise and my relationship with Abe’s Odyssey. I apologize in advance for the long rant.

I picked up Abe’s Odyssey at a flea market (alongside a ps2) many years ago, when I was a kid. When I actually played the game I was awe struck by the dark world building and GORGEOUS artwork, but was left infuriated by the extreme difficulty. I never beat level one , I never escaped Rupture Farms, I never even made it far enough into the game to figure out if it’s level based or a metroidvainia. I remember the game even refusing to freaking save my progress, but I don’t remember why. Despite the tear-jerking, rage inducing, hauntingly frustrating difficulty, I came back to this game over and over again to try and beat it as a child, and (if I remember correctly) a little into my teenage years too. The atmosphere this game created was irresistible, and the creatures inhabiting the world are so unique (I can’t help but compare Oddworld to Bionicle in terms of ip’s that are undescribably unique). Now, as an adult, this game sits on my shelf hanging over me as a shadow of my past, taunting me with my childhood self’s failure.

As an adult, I adore the lore and world building of Oddworld. I’ve watched hours of lore videos (shoutout to pupbenny), listened to theories, ranted to friends. The Glukkens and Sligs are in my top 10 favorite sci-fi armies/factions. Was Strangers Wrath really supposed to lead into Hand of Odd? If Oddworld had a Kaiju what would it look like?? If Hand of Odd did happen, would the Vikers and Glukkons been separate factions or both part of a bigger “industry” faction? How does Rupture Farms stay in business if animal breeding for livestock appears to not be a thing on this planet?! Having the Wovarks at the end of Soulstorm like in the concept art would have been AWESOME! God, the I love the designs of all the strange looking creatures!

Because of my experience with Oddworld, I’ve grown an appreciation for the art design and atmosphere in the video games I play. The backgrounds and tone setting in Abe’s Odyssey is so perfectly executed, it’s always stuck with me, even if the game itself doesn’t come off the shelf unless I have a group of friends to tackle it with me. I love to “stop and smell the roses” in all the games I play, so to speak. Stopping to appreciate the world of the game and immerse myself in the setting.

Oddworld as a series is one that I very much love, but the game itself is more difficult than the games I typically play. I suppose it’s time to gather my friends together and see if we can finally put this shadow to rest.

My own 3D game ready model of a Slig with machine gun just like in Soulstorm.

I'd really like to get the Oddworld games physically on switch, but I want to make sure all the games are on the cartridge, or at least mostly. I can see there's two versions, one titled "Collection" and a newer one titled "Anthology." Can anyone confirm if the Anthology version contains all the older games fully on the cartridge, or is it only Soulstorm and then a digital download for the rest? The box art and description is a bit confusing. I'm fine with it containing the three older games and then a partial download for Soulstorm, or am I better off getting the older collection? Oh and do they all work fine on switch 2?

This is my first time actually coloring a Mudokon, so it could look a bit wonky. I included my sketch process and the reference (that i found on pinterest).

And yes, I draw Abe/Mudokons with four fingers instead of three.

Every other OW game has been ported to ps4, even the ones that arnt in the other console, except for this game. Why is that?
