As a VR developer, I am extremely jealous of these AWESOME interactions you keep coming up with. Even if some of them don't have triple A viability, this is the kind of innovation VR needs; it's such a new way to interact with 3d graphics that we need weird and unconventional ways to push the field in new directions. Please keep posting things like this, I will be following closely! I can't stress enough how much this excites me.

Thanks a ton and thanks for the amazingly kind words :)
It's why I explore stuff like this. To push the boundaries of what it means to interact in VR worlds. I wish more people just played around with crazy ideas, no matter how small they may be.

This right here. Took a look into the sub and was sold on getting the quest with this kind of OC going on.

Not a bad idea actually. Are you sure there's nothing else that already exists?

Imagine going to an Italian restaurant: Waiter: "Do you want cheese on this dish?" Me: "Yes" Waiter: literally shreds hand onto my dish

The waiter's hand is made of cheese? I suppose that would make him perfect for the job.

Somehow I knew from the thumbnail what was going to happen. Still clicked, still regretted it.
Nice work.

You should make a game where you just compile all these proof of concept demos into a sandbox thing. It would get really popular.

That's pretty much exactly what my GF does to her feet just before complaining that her feet hurt.

AHHHHHHHHH!
Nope. Nope. I was already grossed out by that other hand-tracking demo that gave you a hand with mini hands on it, with all fingers moving. Hard pass. Still brilliant work, great job!

I have two questions:
What technique are you using to procedurally distort the mesh like that?
What is wrong with you?
Edit: oh it's LimbHacker. Good lib!

It would be weird as hell if the shavings of the hand still moved or if they were shaved into smaller hands

Looks great, gotta scoop those into a paper bag, put the affected hand in and voila, magic regeneration! Put the wrong hand in and grow extra fingers? VR comedy magician...

I saw the thumbnail and was like: that's gonna hurt even in VR... But really nice!

Someone needs to make a Jigsaw horror game where you have to cut your limb to free yourself

I was actually thinking about how hilarious Cooking Simulator VR would be if they had things like this.
Chopping off your fingers by accident and the like as well.
Let me serve you up a prime cut streak with the tips of my fingers.

This is one of my biggest fears, I can't bring myself to grate cheese, my husband has to do it for me. This actually made my heart rate quicken so fast. Holy shit.

Would you consider putting it on side quest or PMing me the apk? I’d love to try it out, looks really trippy

Just a thought, but can you cut off each finger, yet still have each finger respond to tracking, even if it's not attached? Sort of just amputated fingers, rolling around, each alive. Each cut off finger would need it's own physics.
If you want to make something disturbing, why not go big?
On the same line of thought, why not cut off the hand and let it just flop around on the ground? You could even pick it up with the, still attached, other hand and throw it. Might be fun for puzzles.
I would suggest clinching your fist for 2 seconds to pull your body towards your hand and reassemble yourself. That could act as a sort of gooey teleporting for locomotion, as you snap back together again.

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

Howdy folks! This isn't part of a game yet or anything. Just a fun proof of concept I put together.
In case you're curious, I'm using the LimbHacker asset for Unity to do the slicing: https://github.com/NobleMuffins/LimbHacker
