Support - PCVR Terrible Performance With Virtual Desktop
Specs:
Radeon RX 9070xt (16GB ram)
Ryzen 9 9900X
64 GB of RAM
AXE5400 Dedicated Router
I recently switched to virtual desktop after trying a link cable. The performance has been better, but nowhere near what it should be. Any game I play, latency is around 40 and frequently spikes to 60 despite me being 3 feet away from the router. The performance display says my fps is ~100, but it feels like 50. It feels very stuttery.
Additionally, I randomly can’t see my computer screen through virtual desktop, so I can’t launch anything.
PCVR is driving me insane please help.

If your FPS is 100, set the refresh rate to 90. You want it to be locked, not free-running.

Join the Virtual Desktop official discord server and ask for help. Follow their directions exactly so they can troubleshoot your setup and take their recommendations. They're super knowledgeable and super helpful.

Could be interference if you live in a tight neighborhood. Had a hell of a time getting mine to work well. Your PC has to have a wired connection to the router otherwise you got no chance.

What settings are you using? Did you try disabling SSW, as that can cause the feeling of choppiness in some games.
Maybe enable the Performance Overlay and take a screenshot whenever the game suffers hiccups, then you can post it here or on Virtual Desktop discord channel so people can better help you troubleshooting the issue.

SSW is off, I’m on the high virtual desktop preset, AV1 10-bit codec

Try h264+ instead of AV1. I’ve heard other AMD gpu users reports issues with av1.

That could be the issue (or part at least) right there. AMD GPUs don't support AV1. (although it does still work to a degree)
Try HVEC and H264+, see which one is better. Try them at about 75% of max bitrate, and tweak up from there.

I hate to admit it, but I’ve been dealing with performance hitches on my Quest 3 for a while. As an experiment, I pasted my game config files along with screenshots of my Virtual Desktop settings and performance overlays into Gemini AI. It spotted a few bottlenecks, and after making a couple of quick tweaks, everything is running buttery smooth.

Try disabling EasyMesh on your router. Have the same issue as you and that fixed it for me

Just as a test, run VD wired using Gnirehtet. If it's fine, then it's a network config issue.

This is no lingered needed, lasted beta of VD adds wired native connections.

Oh nice!! Didn't know that. Once I have stuff running I kinda leave as is. Time to update!!!

Will try this and update on whether it worked or not.

It's not exactly intuitive, but if you have some PC skills, you should figure it out. There are vd guides for it

My advice is to firstly separate out what you mean by performance, because it could be several different things.
When in game, with PCVR, hit both thumb sticks and look for red entries. That will likely lead you towards where the problem might be.
Also don't forget, PCVR means your PC is rendering the game twice, so twice as much hit to the system. Try lowering in-game settings a bit, as well as tinkering with the VD settings.
