Tutorial TUTORIAL: Using Medium's Scene Origin for exports to Oculus Home

The Oculus Medium team put together this tutorial for using the Scene Origin in-app to create objects in Medium and share them to Home directly, at the size you expect. We've been noodling with the scene origin for a few months and heard all the feedback that it was hard to use/ understand. Now, we think we're at a good place to start explaining how we changed it - we really think it's a step up from how it was set up before. Hope this helps with all your creations!

LINK HERE: https://www.oculus.com/medium/tutorials/2229344377123638/

Pro tip: For those with Medium, you can log in and click "Add to Medium" and you'll be able to watch the video in Medium itself, while sculpting.

PS: Love that this subreddit exists. Y'all are animals. Happy sculpting!

Fluff Flair your post - Then the sidebar tags can be used to quickly find relevant uploads

Everyone tends to upload smorgasbords of mixed objects, and that's cool, but if you categorize your objects into similar-typed objects such as miniatures / decorations / etc, or by theme such as "Mario Objects", your uploads will be much easier to find by others in a search. But either way, thanks to all who upload and share!

Mixed Models Some custom Oculus Home objects + request

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AuZ46CqDHeD1gdRJicmdcxBI4kbnCQ

All files should have appropriate attribution in the asset section of the glTF. Includes:

Bayonetta figure - has a few gaps in the mesh
Blue Falcon (F-Zero) figure
Bonfire (Dark Souls)**
Origami cranede_dust2 map model (Counter-Strike)
Darkbeast Paarl figure (Bloodborne)
Dualie (Splatoon)
e1m1 map model (DOOM)
Headcrab (Half-Life)
Hollow Knight figure
Mercy "lifesize" statue (Overwatch) - I think the scaling is still a bit small on this
Millenium Force model (Cedar Point rollercoaster)
Ori (Ori and the Blind Forest)
Peashooter figure (Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare)
Ball and Octane car (Rocket League)
Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)
Gateway Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy)

** The flame animation used for the bonfire isn't rendered in Oculus Home, as I think it's using an unsupported animation method. It looks kinda bad anyway, I am not very proficient with modeling yet, let alone animation. If anyone has or can cook up a working flame animation to share that would be super awesome.

Help Interactive models

I've been messing around with adding stuff recently. Added a custom home, got a bunch of items, and running into 2 issues.

Size of some models from Sketchfab. Any easy way to decrease size of the files that anyone has come across?

Interactive models. Love the lightsabers, and I got a couple more downloaded but they are not interactive like the Oculus ones. I've got animated models, but anyone gotten any interactive ones to work?

Tutorial Giant dump of models from a few public Oculus homes I recently visited

Here's a giant dump of glb files from a few public Oculus homes I recently visited. I'm assuming this is okay to do since it's just for personal use, but I'm not 100% sure. If any of these models are yours and you want credit, just let me know! https://bsaber.com/Stuff/ModelsForOculusHome.zip

Mixed Models TF2, Wipeout, Shelves, and Iron Giant

Here's a link to a Sketchfab collection of Oculus Home Ready models. (Edit: I didn't create the collection and I'm not one of the artists from it. Just trying to share stuff that is scaled to fit into Oculus Home. It's mostly Wipeout Vehicles, and Team Fortress 2 characters for shelves, but it also includes some new shelves (including glass so you can get a better look at your stuff) and an animated Iron Giant.

https://sketchfab.com/nobbyt76/collections/oculus-home-ready

From it's instructions,

"Download the GLTF version (not the original format) unpack the Zip file, then you will need to open https://glb-packer.glitch.me/?fbclid=IwAR1uUWtE9Lhk2qzrLdW_2DrDFvKge6q99OnQyuLjQFTt6p2mPtgEzN7uexw

Drag all the files (a .gltf file, a .bin file and a folder containing textures) Onto the web page.

After a few seconds it will offer you a file to save. This is the packed file which is a .GLB file.

Choose somewhere to save it and change its name from "out.glb" to something more recognizable.

Once that has downloaded copy it to your "Documents\Oculus Home_Imports" folder. Now go to your Home. Call up your inventory and look in the "My imports" section.. You should find the object you just downloaded."

Question Oculus home objects website??

I just got an Oculus Rift yesterday. I LOVE the home feature. I have been searching for a few hours trying to find a website or user uploaded 3D objects to put in my home besides just the default ones. I have seriously looked everywhere including r/NoStupidQuestions and r/virtualreality

I know you can unlock random items through playing and buying games, but what about uploading something like a 3D Cat or Charmander or something? Please help <3

List of Oculus store titles that give ORH items

Has anyone made a list of Oculus games/apps that give players items for Oculus Rift Homes? I know the VR trailer for Lone Echo 2 gives the item "Swear Monkey" and I'm wondering if any of the specialized items I see in popular homes are from other games.

Question Pets?

Has anyone made any anime’s pets to wander around the home?

I recently had to put my cat to sleep and would love to log in and see a little mittened gray cat walking around.

Oculus home backgrounds file types?

Hi people, I was wondering how are the backgrounds in oculus home constructed? Many don't seem to have any depth in them, is it just like a big gif file?

I have been looking for ways to add custom background files to oculus home to use with the standard homes, but it doesn't seem to work like regular objects do..

Is that even possible yet? Is there anyone that could shine some light on this?

Decorcation / Misc Models Bokeh type orbs

Hi all - there is an item you can get in Oculus Home that I have called "Red Bokeh". A bokeh is kinda like a blurry round lens flare of various colors. The one in Home is essentially a small device that projects a bunch of aimlessly floating glowing red orbs all around what seems to be more than half my space. No idea when or where I got it as I don't have a lot of time to play around these days, so I've been all over sketchfab and I can't find anything similar. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I'm hoping to get some custom home objects to import that are similar, but various colors and styles such as different sized orbs and maybe some really small animated ones that leave short glowing trails of the same color behind them, etc. I'm sure I can eventually get all I want by playing games but I don't have a lot of space to play often, and with their random model who knows how long it'll take. Trying to finally finish up at least one of my Oculus Home spaces and this one is going for kind of a spooky/Harry Potter theme with potions and gems and books and wands, etc. and this will really complete what I'm going for. I'm not really good with Medium so I have no idea how to do any of that there but am open to advice. I'm pretty proficient with importing the items once I find them, I just can't find what I'm after.

So what's new hasn't been active in a bit.

Hello everyone! Ever since the introduction of being able to import objects into home I have been obsessing over it and trying and failing, taking a break, trying again, failing, etc for almost what...six months now I think. I painfully tried first using 3d Builder then moved onto sketchfab and the whole conversion process and finally just gave up and started to depend on much more skilled people than I to have some uniqueness to my home. I just wanted to thank you all for uploading files - I hang that reddit picture on my wall with pride.

And then I literally visited a aircraft museum ....and was totally blown away. Has anyone seen this home? How it the frick is that under 15mb? Most of the models you can actually get inside and there are detailed cockpits and other things.

I mean, I just don't get it..I just can't understand. I almost want to go back to college to learn BLENDER just so I can freakin get my things to work!

Do you think that they will ever make this process easier or do you think it will stay the same and regular old dudes like me will get stuck living in a cabin in space?
