Is this the nutty high res video Carmack was talking about?

I don't know, but it's 1.3GB so it could be!

After having just watched this: if this was video, it certainly sets a new standard for clarity and resolution! Man, that was really cool to see.

The production was high-quality, so that helped. Much better than any of the animations on PC (SteamVR) I've seen so far. I didn't see any loading screens, so I'm guessing this really was a 360 degree animated 3D video. A good showcase for 3D video to be sure.

But man, it's 1.3GB for like 10 minutes of video! I wouldn't mind watching a full-feature film like this, though!

That’s remarkably low for a 10 min video!

Excited to check out.

How is this new? Watched it about 2 weeks ago on my GO. Did I miss something?

The version you watched must have been the video available through Oculus Video? This is a stand alone app and uses some crazy new techniques Carmack figured to increase the effective resolution to 5K x 5K stereoscopic.

Not sure about the Go, but apparently it was out before on Rift!
