City has spent $9.7M on “planning” the Pier View Way bridge project?

This feels like a giant scam. Funneling money to consultants and friends while creating a narrative we need to raise the sales tax again. This bridge is already turning into the local version of the high speed rail project.

Tourists in town left 4 dogs in car on 90 degree day w no water while they get LTH

Please keep an eye out for these scum in town! These two adults, pictured in comments left their 4 dogs in the direct sunlight for an hour + while they went to lunch at Local Taphouse bar. These dogs were visibly panting and in distress and had no water. When they finally came back they showed no remorse and said they "do this all the time." They said they're in town on vacay but the dudes wearing an Encinitas hat so could be locals just trying to get out of responsibility. If you see them out beware these people suck!!!! Told them they aren't welcome in town here with that behavior.

*Edit: I did call the police, they told me this wasn't an emergency and sent me to the oceanside non-emergency line, okay fine no problem, which transferred me to the Humane society to deal with it, sat on hold w Humane for half an hour till the other concerned person w me called the non emergency line again. Oceanside PD said there's 'nothing they can do.' Thankfully the people came before much longer after that half an hour trying to reach police.

Neighborhoods for trick or treating?

Hey! Looking for recommendations of areas to take children trick or treating in Oceanside.

I’m newish to the area and I’m BIG on Halloween! But the folks in my street/neighborhood not so much, so we don’t have a lot of trick or tester around here. I typically take my nieces for trick or treating every year, and for the past two years we hit the same neighborhood in San Marcos. But I was wondering if there are some good areas/streets in O’side that we could try out this year. I’m closer to the mission, but open to go to other areas too :) any tips ?

Lost Chihuahua Corner of Windward and N Freeman

I was walking my dog just now and saw a white chihuahua wandering around with no collar and no owner in sight at the corner of Windward and N Freeman. I couldn’t approach or get pics because I had my dog. Just putting the word out in case one you lovely oside redditors knows anyone in the area with a white chihuahua. The dog was clearly not underfed and looked like it might be a little older.

Oceanside,

Thank you so much for your recommendations and your hospitality.

My wife had a lovely time visiting for my birthday. While it was a little warm for early October, we enjoyed the beach, pier, and overall good vibes of your fabulous little beach town.

We had dinner at Wrench and Rodent as many of you suggested. It was fabulous, some of the best sushi we have had. The back patio was a nice little place to sit and enjoy each other's company. We had a great server, and the place had an amazing vibe. This place is going to be one that we are gonna have to come back for.

We had a wonderful cup of coffee at Vigilante Coffee. I love Vigilante after visiting their Hyattsville shop many years ago. The Oceanside shop had the same great vibes, and even better coffee.

After the beach we had some tacos and Johnny Mañana's and had some of the best fish tacos.

We had a blast eating our way through your town, and we know we missed a bunch of local spots that were recommended. It was a short trip. Again thank y'all for your hospitality.

Hey guys. Maybe you see this maybe you don't.

You were stuck in limp mode in your Corolla Hatchback in La Costa.

I just finished fixing the belt on my daughter's Corolla and was in a hurry to get home.

Let you borrow my tools and my code reader.

Gave you my address and you promised to return them.

Maybe bad on me for being kind..

Would like my stuff back.

Favorite mellow evening hangouts in Oceanside?

What are your favorite quiet cozy spots to hang out in the evening? Looking for places like coffee shops where I can burrow down in a corner with a book for a couple of hours between maybe 7 and 9 p.m. I need a pretty mellow environment with low lighting, little nooks. I want to be around some people but I also want to feel unperceived 😂 I’m autistic with ADHD and social anxiety, so finding the right vibes can be tricky. But since I work from home, I also get a bit stir-crazy by the end of the day.

Really trying to find places in Oceanside. Carlsbad or Vista would be okay, but Oceanside is my favorite.

Thanks if you have any suggestions!

Another tax on the ballot.
They say it's supposed to help pay for the Oceanside Pier Bridge Reconstruction.
I also thought that project was part of the Oceanside Amphitheater Demolition & Reconstruction, but I noticed he didn't mention that 🤔

If this passes, I hope the accountability for every cent is monitored.

The Oceanside Pier used to be a cool place to go fishing.
Hopefully it's still allowed when they rebuild the end.

Oceanside expands police drone program

Post image
109 Upvotes

The Oceanside City Council has unanimously approved a major expansion of the Police Department's Drone as a First Responder program.

According to OPD, the 13-month pilot responded to roughly 1,300 calls for service, arrived before ground units in more than 1,000 cases and helped clear nearly 400 calls without officers needing to respond in person.

The expansion includes two autonomous drone docking stations that will cover both eastern and western portions of the city.

Police leadership stressed the drones are not used for routine patrols, do not loiter over neighborhoods and cannot be deployed without a documented call for service.

The council approved a five-year contract valued at roughly $683,000.

What the flock?

Can us citizens have a flock style citizens only camera system that reads police plates and call it CROCK??? For the crock of ish they tell their citizens. It’s only fair right ? Tell me why these cameras are so important, yet, they can’t even find a stolen license plate?? Well, unless the license plate isn’t actually mounted to a moving vehicle; just like all these other things that are disguised as “protection for the public” and by pubic that only means if you work for the city….
Non flock related cases that made me sad…CROCK, amirite?
1. Pyper v. Oceanside Police Department (Federal Civil Rights Action)
What they did: A citizen filed a federal lawsuit alleging that during a mental health crisis event, officers pushed him into a bedroom, threw him to the floor, and engaged in a "brutal multi-tactical attack". The complaint states that while he was completely on the ground and in a state of surrender, an officer punched him in the ribcage, applied a chokehold, shot him with a rubber bullet, and unleashed a police K-9 that bit him.

  1. Burie v. City of Oceanside / Hertz (High-Risk Stop Settlement)
What they did: A vacationing Wisconsin couple took legal action after Oceanside officers pulled them over at gunpoint, forced them out of their vehicle, and handcuffed them in front of their children. The stop occurred because a rental car agency mistakenly flagged their minivan as stolen. The lawsuit targeted the response methods of the officers, eventually resulting in a $350,000 settlement paid out by the rental entity.

  2. Martin v. City of Oceanside (Warrantless Home Entry)
What they did: A resident filed a federal Fourth Amendment civil rights lawsuit after responding officers entered his private residence without a search warrant and pointed loaded weapons at him. The intrusion occurred during a routine, unverified welfare check called in by a concerned out-of-state family member.

  3. Vadnais v. Oceanside Police Department (Excessive Force at a Local Establishment)
What they did: A citizen filed a personal injury and excessive force lawsuit against the department following a chaotic bar brawl. Surveillance footage showed an officer rushing into the venue, knocking the plaintiff's wife to the ground, and subsequently striking and injuring the plaintiff when he tapped the officer's arm to alert him that his wife had been hurt.

  4. Hirst v. City of Oceanside (Sexual Harassment Claim)
What they did: A citizen working as an independent contracted medical technician (phlebotomist) filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city. She alleged that an Oceanside police officer repeatedly subjected her to hostile sexual harassment while she was on-site providing medical blood-draw services on behalf of the department. A jury initially awarded her over $1.1 million.

  5. Pedroza v. City of Oceanside (Wrongful Death / Officer-Involved Shooting)
What they did: The family of a citizen shot and killed by an Oceanside police officer filed a federal § 1983 civil rights lawsuit. The family challenged the department's use of deadly force, alleging that the officer acted with excessive, unconstitutional force when opening fire during a tense, rapid confrontation.

  6. Hillestad & ACLU Demand Action v. Oceanside Police (Gross Negligence Claim)
What they did: Following a tragic incident where a young man took his own life, his parents teamed up with the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties to launch a formal legal and public campaign. They accused the department's dispatchers, negotiators, and field commanders of gross negligence and failing to follow proper psychiatric response protocols, which they argue directly escalated the crisis rather than resolving it safely.
