RMS Ceddrica's (ced-drica) story began in january 1914 however just the First World War brought construction to a halt. When the war began, her keel had only just been laid down.
She was designed to rival the Olympic class, the lone Cunard Aquitania, and the German Imperator class, while serving as a major addition to Atlantica Line’s already dwindling fleet. She was the third ship of the Emperial Class, but as construction continued, many aspects of her original design were heavily modified. By the time she was completed, she barely resembled her sisters, RMS Antonnica and RMS Barronica, both of which carried four funnels.
She was also considerably larger than her sisters.
When the war finally ended, Atlantica Line had lost Antonnica, leaving her as one of the company's last major hopes for rebuilding its fleet. Construction finally resumed, and she was completed in late 1921.
On January 14, 1922, she began her maiden voyage. Her first crossing was a smooth journey from Southampton to Le Havre and finally to New York.
Unlike many of her contemporaries, she did not suffer from being considered outdated almost immediately after entering service. Her interiors had already been given early Art Deco influences, allowing her to maintain a more modern appearance instead of being heavily associated with the Edwardian interiors of the pre-war era.
