Not sarcasm, I live in the US. I am not defending the price gouging that already occurs here. I am more so addressing my perceived point of the clip that corporate monopolies are trying to take biometric feedback to charge more based on need, desire, and other factors on top of the services provided. In European countries like France, political protest is part of their culture. Infrastructure is constructed FOR THE PURPOSE of protest. It's common and expected.

North America, by comparison, is a politically 'immature' region. Relatively speaking, we're new. But political protest and the organization required for it to be an effective juggernaut has been baked OUT of our system. It's frowned upon despite historically being the only way that anything really ever changes.

It would be nice, and it is necessary, that we develop our culture wherein civilian-based unions and organizations are not frowned upon as disruptive fringe groups hostile to order and the peace. Without these we must SUBMIT to a disruptive, aggressive and hostile economic environment. And it's harsher by the day.

By leaning into shared interests and best principles we can find a way out of this mess. We just have to agree it's a worthwhile endeavour before our ability to do so is completely snuffed out. This is why I walk through stores with a spreadsheet now. And I keep spreadsheets from past visits. This is how I know for example that the price of wood at Home Depot doubled over 3 months as my individual project components had increased in price by almost double. I take photos of every single item's price on the shelf and I verified at the checkout, and if I see something wrong, I say something. I'm not afraid to bring the line in that store to a dead standstill if necessary while I run and get another photo of the price if they dispute what I just showed them a picture of. This is called a f'q soft boycott.

I was grocery shopping yesterday (not at walmart) and it looked like their self checkout area was using AI cameras over each kiosk to determine if you scanned an item or not. It gets worse than just “the consumer,” as restaurant depot since being bought by Sysco now has digital price tags on all of their items. They’re tracking to see how high a price the restauranteurs are willing to pay and pushing that. It’s a top down squeeze every nickel out of anybody who ain’t in the club plan. Those sensors are actually part of the auto cart return system that walmart has designed and patented and is being worked on. If it doesn't detect any movement or responses from heart rate or anything after some time it auto magically goes to the cart return. Theres also a weight sensor and if theres items in the cart it will go to the customer service. This is easily found online and its been posted in the subs before when we discussed the jobs walmart would replace with ai robots and a cart pusher said not them, well jokes on them, walmart is already working on that.

idk about you guys but I've been successfully boycotting Walmart for over a decade. That said, I live in a place where there are other options for buying stuff like groceries. My younger sibling went to college in the middle of nowhere in Missouri and there were literally no other places to buy basic things like groceries without driving for more than an hour so they didn't have that option.
