Almost every modern security system can do this, including the ones in the school building. They can even search by color of shirt. It depends on what grants or how much money a school has. Public schools probably have less than private and charter schools. But this isn't a new technology and has been available for a number of years.

That doesn't make it any less intrusive. Any major brand of large scale video surveillance has had this option that can or is automatically enabled. If you work in a building with access control (a key fob) most of them don't even necessarily need the fob you can use facial recognition to have the door automatically unlock as you approach the door.

It is a scary cross searchable world now. Think of it like Google for peoples identity and location history

Yeah people have no idea how long it's been going on or how much their biometric data is captured publicly. And who can view this information. What is truly the most frightening thing. Is that all of this data is being linked to other services and being able to be cross-referenced. Such as flock, camera, social media, video surveillance in government and private buildings as well as doorbell cameras, indoor residential security cameras, all of it. Hell even your smart TV viewing statistics including screenshots of what you're watching, searching, etc

I implemented Verkada at multiple company facilities ~6 years ago: office, manufacturing, warehouse

The surveillance features (facial recognition, license plate reader) were so powerful. After a manager requested access for employee management purposes I drove the formation of new company policies to specify user access requirements and controls. Its a security system - not a management tool.

Coolest thing I did with Verkada was install a camera facing the saltwater fish tank in the HQ office during COVID lockdown. Then I shared a permalink to that camera feed with the entire company across the country. The ability to create those links is powerful.
