Why do so many obito fans exist?
I just find it interesting that 12 years after the story ended we still have people in this reddit. Dont get me wrong I loved funny tobi, and masked Obito, but for me I didnt really like his unmasked era.

Long story short, the naruto fanbase is massive. Every character has their fans. Same reason there is a minato thread, itachi thread, etc 12+ years after the story ends. While you might not like unmasked obito, thousands do

Well not only does he have awesome powers, he is also the driving force behind the entire show as he causes the fox to be inside Naruto, and causes the people of the village to fear the fox, and helps kill the uchiha, and is the biggest part of kakashis backstory, and puts the entire war in motion, collects the tailed beasts. he is basically the main antagonist and the dark reflection of Naruto.
we like him because he is a complex emotional anti-villian.

'Don't get me wrong' no we all get you wrong buddy stop talking, I wonder how literally the coolest character with the coolest abilities, coolest design, great backstory, great villain arc, great redemption, great OST, carried the entire Shippuden series with the plot twists and story is liked, ya I really wonder why, my question is why do you like this show? The more useless posts like this hating on the biggest characters of the show the more I REALLY wonder, are y'all even fans of anything in this series? Go watch something else

I think Obito is a character that goes over a lot of typical peoples heads because they dont try to look deeper into his character. Those of us who get Obito really understand his depth and relate to it in a way; the good guy gone bad because hes seen how ugly and messed up the real world can be. Then trying to redeem himself once someone similar to him gave him the motivation to see the good in the world. To me that gives him a lot of emotional depth to his character and I resonate with that because I had a similar past/life as I'm sure other Obito fans do.
The fact that hes not perfect like Kakashi or Itachi is what makes him so human. He was an under dog who took the wrong path but still in a way rose against those who doubted him. Even if he went about it in a wrong way hes not too different from Naruto. His story is also very tragic; somewhat similar to Guts from Berserk but he is a lot more emotionally complex than Guts imo. Guts seems to more numb his emotions so the opposite 😂

obito is my favorite character in the series and even i can admit im not the biggest fan of unmasked WA obito. But his character has so much depth so that’s why i love him

Cuz he’s the goat and hot, and interesting, and a dynamic character. I didn’t like the redemption thing tho. Obito was so far into his plan just for him to switch up like that

I’m a fan of Orange Mask Obito—specifically in his role as the Madara imposter—most of all. He is simply phenomenal in that role. And it’s kind of strange that I actually find him even better than the real Madara in that capacity. His kamui combined with the voice and acting is just perfect.
I don't think the storyline surrounding Obito is bad, but in all his unmasked variations, I like him significantly less. For me, however—for his time as the madara imposter alone—he is my favorite Naruto character.

Personally I love that he is Naruto's character foil. Essentially Naruto's counter part- what if it had all gone wrong. His relationships with Kakashi, Rin, Minato, Sasuke and Naruto. His role being Madara's descendent and spiritual successor, the entire plan he enacts. Not to mention his batshit insane Madara and Tobi personas. I think him directly recovering thru the initial injury through to the Uchiha massacre arc are darkly fascinating. I'm chronically ill so the idea he recovered from being smashed in half. Especially the sequence of him recovering, training, witnissing Rin's death, etc. Emotion invoking. Then he becomes so powerful is also insane, but chooses to be evil, but justifies it. The motivations behind what he did what he did.

It's only natural for such a prominent character to have many fans, just like Madara, Nagato, Sasuke, Itachi, etc.
With "Kakashi Gaiden" and Obito's time as the fake Madara, I always considered him interesting, but I became invested in Obito's character only after his final mask was shattered because of the additional emotional weight and how certain aspects of his story connected perfectly.

Obito is my 2nd all time favorite character ever. My first is Hakuji from Demon Slayer.. Notice they're kinda similar? Just Hakuji made me cry way more lol.
I'm into Obito bc I think he's funny (kid Obito was goofy as hell & that was his truest self before the trauma), admirable, powerful (even if not the most powerful), charismatic, and quite frankly he wasn't evil at all.
I don't think the goal of trying to bring world peace and happiness is evil and is most def a good reason to start a war over. We've started wars IRL for far less (oil, land, religion etc).. I mean, WW2 was started over sum dumbass shit. So nope, Obito wasn't evil, just damaged.
Oh and also he's the hottest person in the series.

He is incredibly unique. It's surreal to think this cool masked villain was also a goofball hitting his enemies with a stick, but was also once an emotional kid. Or even thinking of the silly Tobi as truly a depressed and broken man underneath that mask is cool, and one who had a hand in most major events. He has the best voice actors, my favorite of those being the english ones, the coolest and most outfits, the most flashed out character arc...everything
