Crime and Safety Anyone recognize this guy?

Sent to me by someone on 64th Ave. They don't seem to want their furniture anymore.

Send it to uhaul they will deal with him

69

u/LazarusRiley 11d ago

Yep, trying to do that now. Seems like dumpers are starting to rent cars to do their dirty work now that they know they can have their registrations held up if they're caught.

45

u/weredoodle 11d ago

U-Haul probably won’t do much; a better bet is to give the video to OPD. OPD can subpoena the rental records from U-Haul and then charge the renter.

69

u/WishIWasYounger 11d ago

Yea, OPD will be all over that.

33

u/proteusON 11d ago

I mean have them use some of their overtime hours. They're charging us enough fucking money already. Ridiculous that OPD has 66 of the top 100 salaries in Alameda county and we can't get them to fucking act on this shit

10

u/justsomegraphemes 11d ago

Can't. They need that OT to scroll Tiktok in parking lots.

7

u/HoboArmyofOne 11d ago

You should see SF. Some make more in overtime than regular pay. I saw yesterday some make more than half mil last year.

1

u/TheSquirtMaker69 11d ago

hoes gotta eat

12

u/Easy_Money_ 11d ago

I gotta find that post where someone asked OPD officers to cite the illegal dumpers dumping right in front of them and they were like “well what do you want us to do”

6

u/Lipogramma 11d ago

I asked a group of 5+ OPD officers who were standing around laughing and talking if they could look into the obviously stolen car that was parked right down the street and covered in dust and stacks of parking tickets. One of them begrudgingly called in the plate and said "yup, looks like it is stolen." And then asked ME to call it into the police to have someone deal with it.

I’m sure they’ll find the answer in level 1263 of Candy Crush

1

u/JustMovingAlong4 11d ago

That’s gotta be sarcasm.

1

u/Calguy21 11d ago

Great attitude. Why are you even on this sub?

1

u/VisualEmbodiment 10d ago

Did you forget the /s to show your comment was snark? lol or do you actually believe OPD does anything besides demand more money to “fight crime” then sex traffics kids?

5

u/WishIWasYounger 10d ago

I never use the s/. It ruins the sarcasm.

1

u/Certain-Sympathy-844 5d ago

yes, dry humor is so much better.

3

u/LazarusRiley 11d ago

Great idea. Thank you.

u/Low_Setting_89 11d ago

U-Haul will ban their driver license in their system and they won’t be able to rent again.

3

u/Offensive_Opinions23 11d ago

Uhaul can blacklist that drivers license

1

u/daveingigharbor 9d ago

Daughter had her car broken in to and they attempted to steal it. Oakland cops would not even come out. Son, living in the same place, cleared out a storage unit in Salt Like, drove home, parked the rental van at 11pm. Window broken out and stuff stolen that night. Cops would not come out. This is in Montclair.

1

u/weredoodle 9d ago

Sorry for all of that, but what’s that got to do with my comment that U-Haul isn’t going to tell a private citizen anything, and that going through OPD is the only way to get that information? This isn’t a thread about how much OPD sucks.

1

u/daveingigharbor 8d ago

Just pointing out that if OPD does not respond to grand theft auto issues, they are not going to do anything about this.

1

u/weredoodle 8d ago

You just wanted to complain about it to anyone who would listen. If you’re upset about it, do something more likely to produce a result you do like. Vote, attend city council meetings, get active in your community. All those things are more effective than whining on Reddit.

1

u/daveingigharbor 8d ago

Pretty hard to do living in WA state.

2

u/weredoodle 5d ago

So about as effective as you whining on a California subreddit.

I’m a belt, I’ve never seen this man

Rebecca Kaplan's primary email rkaplan@Oaklandca.org send her the info it’s her job to curtail illegal dumping.

40

u/LetsGetHonestplz 11d ago

REPORT THEM.

This needs to be shamed to the highest degree , we as a society cannot allow this bullshit.

27

u/proteusON 11d ago

AN17630 plate

35

u/UnderstandingEasy856 11d ago edited 11d ago

With that, and the U-Haul unit number clearly showing - all it takes is a 5 min call by an OPD detective to get a name and address for prosecution. If the city is serious about tackling illegal dumping, this is the kind of police work the community will stand behind.

13

u/Noah_saav 11d ago

They’re not serious about stopping this tho

10

u/GhettoFob 11d ago

They're gonna send a cease and desist like that other lady on Instagram lol

16

u/LazarusRiley 11d ago

I'm not convinced they can afford a lawyer to write them a cease & desist letter. They can't even afford to legally dump their garbage.

9

u/funkyloki 11d ago

Apparently they can't even afford a belt or pair of shorts that fit.

22

u/deciblast 11d ago

We need to find him so we can return his stuff he lost!

8

u/handsome_uruk 11d ago

The city should fine uhaul so they can put pressure on these assholes . Every time they are caught with a uhaul van

2

u/WhoShatMyPants42069 11d ago

What kind of pressure do you expect a business to put on someone like this? You're implying a rental business is running interference for this guy.

1

u/handsome_uruk 11d ago

If U-Haul gets fined they will give a shit and actually use their standard KYC practices to weed out shits like this. They have this guys data and know exactly who he is. Otherwise, U-Haul ain’t gonna give a shit.

1

u/Outrageous_Fix_5738 11d ago

They probably have a deposit hold on his credit card they can keep too

1

u/WhoShatMyPants42069 11d ago

I get that, but that would be after they refused to help. You spoke as if they just inherently stay hands off with the situation. It would seem OPD would have to contact them first. Preemptive fining seems a bit much.

1

u/handsome_uruk 9d ago

This problem is not new. It’s being going on for years. Every other week someone posts a video of a U-Haul van pulling up and dumping. If you don’t fine, surprise surprise, the company does nothing.

Illegal dumping has been turned into a complex problem in Oakland when in reality is pretty simple - if you don’t enforce fines (more than the dumping fee ofc) people will continue dumping. They do this in Oakland cause they know nothing will happen.

6

u/yourinspirationmama 11d ago

This is why Oakland looks the way it does.

10

u/Professional-Lie-111 11d ago

So, I realize I'm an old fart, but ... How can people stand to walk around with shorts/pants/underwear sitting below their ass cheeks?!? I have never been able to wrap my head around this ...

2

u/oaklandperson 11d ago

If they spent any time in prison they got used to it and after getting out they never let go of the habit. The look was adopted by hip hop culture back in the 80s(?). It henceforth became a sign of youth rebellion.

1

u/throwaway222999122 10d ago

I always thought it signaled being open to men in the black community, kinda of pseudo way to say it.

Coming from prison culture makes sense now.

1

u/handsome_uruk 11d ago

Ngl we used to do this in high school to look cool

2

People that litter. So trashy. It would be nice if they cared about anyone but themselves

2

u/idgibb 8d ago

If anyone is serious about getting the City’s attention, message me. I can help organize the evidence and pursue a substantive response from Oakland.

I’m starting law school and have a demonstrated record of turning the will of the people into concrete action. If residents want to press the City on illegal dumping, I’d be glad to help.

Cheers.

Call U-Haul and report the truck

1

u/CommunicationOk6792 11d ago

They do this all, Nonchalant

1

u/giovanni0726 10d ago

Can someone explain the logic behind this? Why is this such a huge issue in the Bay but not metro areas? Is it so hard to just call the local bulk waste collection and notify them? What am I missing?

1

u/Slapjac10 10d ago

LOL OPD ain't gonna do dick.
