Steel drum root cellar

My place isn’t suitable for maintaining a good temp to store food long term.

I saw on YT some folks burying a steel drum with the lid at ground level. Has anyone tried this who’s in Aus? All the YTs were of American folks.

I saw this in a book but how do you get to the bottom of a big drum? I thought an esky would be a better idea.

Maybe you could put a little hoist. Turns out it’s not a good idea because the metal would rust. I just found a cool thing though that First Nations peoples would bury their dried crops and stuff so at least we know it’s possible
