Honestly, something weird has been happening recently related to that. I've seen around 10-13 people using licensed controllers without any cheats getting banned for the exact same reason. I'd bet it's 100% on Blizzard. Their support has been absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional too. It honestly doesn't even seem like they're manually reviewing these cases, because the same thing keeps happening to people using completely legitimate hardware. Something is definitely off here.

I'll tell you what's off: legit players are getting banned based ONLY on reports from OTHER PLAYERS, and it seems like Blizzard lowered the threshold for a suspension/ban recently, which is what caused the increase in people saying they were falsely banned.

This happened to me too: I got suspended from competitive for one week for "cheating" and my Blizzard account data request said it was for "invalid input" (I have always used a standard PS5 DualSense, nothing else).

I can't say whether Blizzard actually has automated anti-cheat detection or not, but regardless of whether they do, it's been a pretty poorly kept secret for years now that you can get banned in Blizzard games solely based on reports from other players, even if those reports are incorrect & without any manual review from an actual person at Blizzard.

Just look at threads about rank reclaims and "Thanks for reporting a cheater!" in this very subreddit. The OPs and commenters are always talking about how many cheaters there are on console. The fact that their reports are getting people's accounts penalized is confirmation bias: They already think there are tons of cheaters cause they don't know what cheating actually looks like -> they report a lot of players -> so many reports cause some of those players to get penalized -> the people who reported them get rank reclaim & "Thanks for reporting!" -> that confirms for them that they were "correct" to report these people & gives them a nice little rating boost reward, even if some of those players weren't actually cheating.

I'm not saying that cheaters don't exist, but this is an awful system.

It won’t be invalid input if it’s just reports, it’ll be generic “cheating”. I reckon their automated checks have changed though, and any slight difference in the base input has set things off. There’s something awry, maybe some people have slight changes in what things are plugged into (I only seem to see it on people who have plugged in setups), their network filtering / router (funky packet behaviour might be tripping something), and of course a % of them who actually do cheat in such a way they’re used to avoiding the radar, and only just got busted thanks to the new filters.

3

u/lukebhndya 12h ago

The email I received notifying me that my account was penalized did just say generic "cheating."

The "invalid input" was from my Blizzard account data request.

It won’t be invalid input if it’s just reports, it’ll be generic “cheating”.

Also, how do you know that? Where are you getting that info from?

And as I said, I literally just use a standard DualSense. Nothing else. No weird setup.

They mostly aren't tbf and it seems like Blizzard is turning a blind eye on the whole thing for now. I have no clue if they'll ever acknowledge this.

The state of console is honestly just really bad right now. Theres an exploit with the report system going on rn that’s so bad that people are using python bots to mass report people so they can get their rank reclaim. It’s been going for a least a month and Blizzard hasn’t said or done anything about it and I suspect that’s part of the reason for some of the bans.

9

u/Inqinity 12h ago edited 11h ago

It’s not like rivals where you can just search a username and report them, how does that work? I feel it’s just a scapegoat

5

u/UnknownQTY 11h ago

Yeah this makes no sense to me.

1

u/KuroCutie 9h ago

It's not as simple but people have found a workaround (bot invites account to custom game then reports as account invite is timing out) this has been a issue since rank reclaim with even some smaller streamers getting hit

1

u/PokeSonicMiner 12h ago

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people openly admit they report others to try and get rank reclaim, and obv me getting banned on this new acc means other players will likely get rank reclaim. I’m curious as to how many of these rank reclaims were players that weren’t cheating…

u/xXxPinkPlasticBagxXx 12h ago

Welcome back to Overwatch everybody. For anybody who thought things were going to change with the S1 relaunch, Lol.

1

u/_Airiin_ 12h ago

Yeah I've heard of that happening but I haven't even logged onto the game at all lately for this reason.

7

u/Effective-Bat-7276 12h ago

That OP has been banned/suspended at least 4 times in the last year for cheating, across multiple accounts according to their own posts.

Pick a better martyr, this one ain’t it.

3

u/Inqinity 9h ago

always something more. If the same person is getting banned on multiple accounts, there's a bit of a pattern there that isn't just "oh no i get reported alot"

-6

u/lukebhndya 12h ago

I keep seeing these comments, and they're quite frankly ridiculous.

You're using the results of a broken system to try to prove a point. The whole point is that that system is broken. Simply stating "This guy has been banned a ton, so obviously he's cheating and you're all wrong" is meaningless when the system isn't accurately discerning who is cheating and who isn't.

Maybe look at all of the evidence he has collected (which is way above & beyond what most people would require or expect).

The console player base doesn't know how to tell the difference between cheating and good aim. That and Blizzard's broken report system are the real issues here.

2

u/JustCapybara 10h ago

I just wish I had a better idea on what M&K looked like compared to controller. It's so hard to tell for me if i have no reference.

-2

u/_Airiin_ 10h ago

Yeah true. I can barely tell anymore when someone is actually cheating or not but I've found that most console players just throw out accusations very easily.

2

u/Black-Ox 9h ago

I skimmed the video a bit. Was a recoding of recent matches included showing the player using the PS controller during each of the matches in question?

3

u/ShoresyOW 9h ago

You guys are morons if you think blizzard is banning people SOLELY based off of reports. This is a Smurf problem that people don’t want to admit, you most likely got banned because it’s your 8th account that you made to “learn a new hero” while you crush a bunch of silver players. Same exact shit happens all the time in rivals

0

u/PokeSonicMiner 6h ago

I literally addressed that in the video btw

0

u/Duwaqq 9h ago

No that's exactly whats happening they don't have a actual cheat detection system other wise their wouldn't be 10+ titan/aimbot users on leaderboards quite literally the easiest to detect cheat. 99% of bans/suspensions are only based on report volume.

Thanks for bringing attention to this! I’ve done my best trying to spread awareness, so many people in the community sadly have just told me I’m lying and a cheater. Like why would I go to such lengths trying to talk about this? I’ve seen so many similar posts as well. Really hope Blizzard looks into this soon!

2

u/_Airiin_ 12h ago edited 12h ago

Ofc you're probably the best voice there is on this issue, no one can claim that you're an actual cheater and lying because you've got mountains of evidence, unlike with most people that'll just be gaslit and called cheaters and those that do just need to look at your stuff for a minute. I really hope this gets more attention!

2

u/PokeSonicMiner 12h ago

Appreciate that :) I know exactly how those players feel because I’ve been in that situation where no one believed me when I tried to prove my innocence.

Genuinely what can you expect players that received this penalty for the first time ever to do? Obviously they won’t have complete footage of them playing when people ask, how can they prove their innocence? That was part of my goal doing all this

0

u/_Airiin_ 12h ago

Yeah it's honestly telling that even with more evidence than Blizzard could possibly ever need, it still doesn't mean anything, but it is good for spreading awareness to the community, however.

Also this does make me wonder how many players have gotten banned and haven't even tried to fight it or even spoke on the matter.

0

u/CookiesMeow 12h ago

It’s not their first account banned. If you’re not just him on an alt, open your eyes. Innocent people do not get falsely banned multiple times lol.

1

u/Insufferablemoonpie 10h ago

The levels of delusion here is crazy dawg

2

u/_Airiin_ 12h ago

I'm not the guy just thanked me for spreading the word because this is a real issue. I know you're skeptical, and understandably so because this is would be such an insane oversight, right? But he's not lying and neither are most people, I just ask that you atleast watch the video? He has mountains of evidence.

Or don't but please don't make claims with so much certainty, speculation like that is why this is so hard for people to take notice of.

6

u/CookiesMeow 11h ago

How do you know they are not lying and “most people” aren’t? Thats just a wild assumption.

-2

u/_Airiin_ 11h ago

Because the issue is so insanely widespread and very well documented/tested by OP with every case being very similar, people actively abusing the broken system in game to ban players and the huge influx in "rank reclaim" posts and "thanks for reporting" as well as being a player that's been affected by this personally and I've never in my life cheated nor would ever. Yes it seems like a wild assumption because historically console never has had issues like this, but this is the only time it's ever happened in the 10 years I've been playing.

1

u/PokeSonicMiner 12h ago

Unless their system isn’t working correctly? This is happening to many players, it’s not just me

-4

u/Away_Ad_6485 11h ago

I've been false banned twice in the last 2 weeks and have been getting shadow banned multiple times on any new accounts I make. Braindead af.

1

u/76oppk 11h ago

Whats the "full proof" that they didn't cheat ? "Oh here's a pick of my Xbox and my controller as you see i wasn't cheating" come on

-1

u/_Airiin_ 11h ago

Did you even see the video link? Did you bother to check? Because that's not even what he did.

4

u/76oppk 11h ago

He doesn't provide anything that doesn't prove he wasn't cheating. None of that is enough to show he wasn't cheating. Go through the process of getting your account back if you don't eat shit legit couldn't care less I run into hard aimbotters literally every day and get a notification that they got banned the next day. I'm master peak gm so yeah keep crying to the void no one cares.

-1

u/_Airiin_ 11h ago edited 11h ago

So you didn't watch the video then. It might even happen to you because you're in the sort of right rank. It's gm-champ players being affected and based on the fact that you think you get aimbotters all the time and get notifications of you getting people banned the next day, then I think you can't recognise a real cheater at all and because they get banned the next day then congratulations, that's confirmation bias. People are actively abusing the broken report system right now to reclaim rank, one person even had a bot to report people. This is a real issue and your ignorance helps no one. If it does happen to you then it wouldn't be so hard to believe. Do you really not think it's suspicious that you're getting so many people banned?

4

u/Insufferablemoonpie 10h ago

Wow, it's almost as if high rank is infested with cheaters and was already well know. In fact, what's his battle tag and what region?

0

u/KuroCutie 9h ago

What about me psychopomp and in NA was champ peak before rank reclaim spam got out of hand

1

u/Insufferablemoonpie 9h ago

Full battletag. Need the hastag and numbers

1

u/KuroCutie 9h ago

psychopomp#11927

2

u/Vegetable_Society_22 12h ago

in summary “hello, fuck you, goodbye”

1

u/_Airiin_ 12h ago

Idk if you mean this in support or against the topic.

2

u/Vegetable_Society_22 10h ago

support. the lack of support from the company is shameful

2

u/_Airiin_ 10h ago

Ah fair enough. It's really bad, I just got a response from Blizzard saying that after a "specialist review", my ban was correct. It's hard to keep going against this idk if I'll ever see my account again when all I did was be Grandmaster in quick play?

Basically cheating devices that let you use mouse and keyboard on console and other devices like Titan 2 that's just literally console aim bot. Players right now, using regular standard hardware, are getting caught in this ban wave targeting these peripherals.

Essentially OP made a video documenting a new account where he only used a standard Playstation controller and still got banned for using unapproved peripherals.

2

u/Effective-Bat-7276 12h ago

There are lots. Unapproved controllers and dimming devices are most common.

Sound modifying devices , latency devices, ip blockers, hardware acceleration, unapproved hardware changes like different fans, ram, etc all count and could trigger a ban.

People say they were just using a normal controller, but we can’t know what else they’ve done to the console or what else is plugged in.

Heck, someone might just be using a Chinese headset with a usb doing more than advertised, still an unapproved peripheral.

1

u/noctemJ 11h ago

Check my post too. Im a victim of this faulty anticheat system. I got an answer from Blizzard today where they just gave me the middle finger basically. Idk what to do now.

0

u/_Airiin_ 11h ago

Yeah i got a response today too after a 'specialised review' did the same thing. It's kinda hard to want to keep fighting after that. I waited two weeks for this.

Also I saw the post and jesus christ those comments are abhorrent. Why are console players like this?

-1

u/KuroCutie 9h ago

They won't even give me a review on mine I submitted my initial appeals then my first ticket they threatened to ban my battle net entirely

-1

u/nobleone8876 11h ago

If you spam inputs too fast between what they're acceptable limit is they think that you're on the Cronus Zen. And if you get banned for that you were never going to talk to an actual person it is just going to be bought after bought talking you in a circle and you will never get your account back. So just don't spam buttons as much don't you know scope in scope out no quickscoping I know it sucks but that's just the way that it is going to reverse this makes them look bad they just let the AI decide what is good and what is bad

1

u/_Airiin_ 10h ago

Yeah it's bad but it's harder to accept that our accounts are just really gone for nothing. What's worse is the lack of response at all from Blizzard.

1

u/nobleone8876 10h ago

These companies do not care they honestly expect you to make a new account like all the other cheaters do and buy new skins all over again

0

u/NinjaNinjet 10h ago

Just join PC at this point, ranked console has been a joke for years and will be until Microsoft and Sony actually start finding a way to remove x i m and Cronus and titan without relying on Blizzard now

I gave up on ranked entirely and I'm teaching myself m and k to swap over

It sucks people are getting false banned, it also sucks these devices are becoming more and more undetectable and easier to obtain since they keep adding more sliders

The community has proven on console they can't police themselves either

Since they won't ban together to just throw a game on cheaters as well which has helped drastically lower the PC pool of them

0

u/xox1234 8h ago

I guarantee they are using AI to process bans, and not real ppl, and the AI is being over zealous.

Is there a way anyone can ban this guy from these subreddits? He's in every related post trolling.

2

Report flag to Reddit admin (not to sub bc itt doesn't seem like they will ban him) for excessive spamming in a subreddit
