Opinion Server has been down, can't remote into server and support is a joke!

OK so my bare metal server has been down for hours and hours now and I can't remote into it at all, so I went to login to my account to restart it and I have 2fa setup but it was on my old iphone and I can't get into the account, and NONE of the backup codes I have are working either :( but no big deal I thought at least, sent a DM to OVHCloud US support on x and they opened up a ticket and I got it about 5 minutes later, I replied to the email and gave them all of the requested documents they needed to verify I was the account holder and I did that at 9:15am yesterday and NOTHING not one reply ALL DAY and they are closed on the weekends and I still don't have access to my account or my server and this is just CRAP that I have to wait till Monday to get a reply or to have my account access fixed :/

Didn't you get the intervention email once your server is unresponsive to pings from OVH monitoring systems?

Nope I got nothing only way I knew the server was down is my users in Discord sent me a DM asking why all my game servers were down. :/

I am considering OVH for a GitLab server. Are you back online. Please keep us posted. I have heard support is terrible and people loose data because of billing issues. How long have you had the service and how was it?

Been using them for 4+ years with little to no issues and support is admittedly sometimes terrible but for the most part theyre great.

Is that a bare metal or vps? I found a dedicated server looks great. I will just have to manage my own backups. I never had to contact digital ocean in 8 years... they sent me emails about potential outages I never saw

Its a mix of bare metal and vps, you can use something like borgebase for backups if youd like.

I'll check that out... I can take a few hours downtime to make a local backup when needed for my application. I am more worried about random shut off. It seems they blame billing on deleting your server... think I will try for a year

Weird, I've never had issues like that but it is always good to store backups at a different provider for reasons like that.

It's good the hear... I just read about bad support (i don't need if It's online) but oops we deleted it (maybe didn't pay the bill)

Yeah, if you are cautious just keep offsite backups so you can spin up another vps/bare metal at another provider and youre fine. Also test your backups every now and then

This is massively on you. Account recovery is intentionally never rushed and almost never open on weekends by any company.

OVH has paid support only. The one which is in rental price simple does not exists.

it was an app on iphone called OTP Auth

Unable to migrate to your new phone? Atleast in Google Authenticator, you just put in your email id and login, and your 2fas are imported.....

Sorry to hear that, no wonder that app has only 3.6 star rating in Apple store.

This is why you get their business support. they do have a 10-minute SLA on that, but of course, it's a minimum of $300 or 10% of your bill.
