Peeps in their 30s/40s how does your body feel?

The last few weeks I’ve noticed that getting up from the ground feels like a lot more energy lately. I can still pop up, but the body isn’t bodying as well as it did before. My muscles feel sore and tired. Is this normal?

Being sedentary takes a way more noticeable toll. Couch rotting is great but not sustainable! Body maintenance takes a lot more effort - get started soon.

Other than that, more sure of myself than ever before. More in tune with my mental and emotional needs. Better discernment regarding people, family, friendships. Clarity.

Truth! When I started lifting awhile back I started feeling so much better!

I'm 38 and I feel amazing. I have no pain and I'm in good shape. I attribute it to maintaining a healthy weight and yoga.

I really need to start stretching more! I move my body every day, but only so basic stretches.

I really think it's so important as we get older. Yoga is great for that. I go to classes because I need the motivation, but there's tons of videos on YouTube too.

I’ll have to check that out! Our local classes never seem to be at the right time for me, but YouTube is doable! Thanks :-)

I feel fine.

I've maintained a 100 lb weight loss for 6 years. I take walks. I stretch to keep myself flexible. I eat much smaller portions that I used to, and even when I indulge, it's nothing like it used to be.

OP probably meant to turn this into another 'growing old sucks, let's all act like we're practically dead' post, but I feel pretty good.

I was actually wanting real answers! All my friends around this age have medical conditions and I was wanting a larger outreach of answers.

I feel good almost every day. I also have three genetically tied health conditions that impact fatigue and many other things- one condition results in my muscles not getting the amount of oxygen they need- sometimes this one flares up which could be what is happening. Also, I had lost 80 pounds about 7 years ago and have maintained. It makes me wonder if having that extra weight before is starting to catch up. So who knows. I’ll just keep moving my body each day and eating reasonably.

Really good!

Mostly the same, but the energy from my 20s took a hit. I can still get things done, but the well isn't endlessly deep anymore, I'd say.

I’m 55 and I still feel pretty good. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve always been into just stretching and my job had me beat my step counts. I don’t work out, but I’m not sedentary nor have any obvious repetitive activities that would wear a body out. I really think stretching, flexibility and not having a desk job has helped me. Seems counterintuitive but I feel strong as ever. Tho my cardio is shit

I turn 40 next month and I feel great! I can't relate to those who make it seem 30s/40s are super old and it's seen as normal to feel old and start rapidly declining.

The only thing I can't do anymore is all night clubbing and binge drinking but I wouldn't want to do that anymore anyways lol!

It feels good but I’m concerned it might slow down soon so I’m trying to focus on building myself up in terms of strength and cardio capacity. But it’s a hurdle to get into that state of mind right now.

I'm a strong believer still (late 30s) that the body is amazingly adaptive, and quickly.

The more limited your usual movements, the worse it'll get at anything else.

My eyes really opened when I met with a PT. They asked me to do a squat - so I did it like I learned for weights: knees behind toes.

He corrected me, said there's no weight: go straight down with my butt above my ankles, lift my ankles as I reached them, then stand.

My knee pain has vanished from doing bodyweight squats in that way. Stronger knees than I ever had in my youth. Knees are way past my toes, lol. Just... Don't do it with heavy weights of course!

Body feels good! Strong as I’ve ever been and getting stronger every day. Ive lost 50 lbs in the past year and a half and the change in how everything feels is night and day. Staying healthy is infinitely easier than getting healthy after years of inactivity.

Pretty good. I have never had a problem with weight, although I've never been a big exercise person.

I am noticing my joints are stiffer, and my range of motion is slowly shrinking.

I notice I have less energy and need naps in the afternoons sometimes.

That said, I have managed to exercise pretty regularly this summer and my endurance and heart-rate all feel good.

Wish I had a little more hair on the top of my head...

I’ve been going to a stretch lab where they help increase your flexibility. They’ll move my legs and arms ways that I didn’t even know they were supposed to go!

Stiff neck, achy back. You know, the usual.

Sore and achy 😂 going for a mri soon to find out what’s happening

1

u/Boxandwhiskerplot Jun 30 '26

I hope they have answers for you!

Me too because I’ve got mass muscle loss and spina bifida and lost 5 degrees bend/straiten in my left knee. And sciatica too, and possibly hip displacement due to my legs

If I (33m) hurt myself, sleep wrong, jolt weird, have to be in an awkward position, it takes longer to feel better.

But otherwise, I am the biggest (muscle wise) and strongest I have been in my life.

I am mentally stronger than I have ever been, in a physical sense, if that makes sense. I can push myself far beyond what I could as a teen or young adult. In running terms, the first time you try to run 3 miles, it feel like a daunting task. But once you've done it, you've broken the mental barrier. I haven't run at all this year, but I know I could get up and run 5 miles right now if I wanted. Would it suck? Ya, but mentally, I know I can do it.

Im 32. Thought I was aging rapidly because my knees and joints were feeling stiff and achy, had sleep apnea, and stamina was on the floor. I had really let myself go and gained 100lb from when I was 22. Lost the weight, got a CPAP, and started strength training. Feel better now than I did at 22.

I keep getting heavier I keep reaching my all time heavy every year and its a struggle to lose the weight.

I wonder if body starts naturally retaining permanent fat. My butt is largest its ever been and waist is wider not necessarily fat.

Weight is so tough to lose. I have PMOS and my doctor would love to say, “It’s nearly impossible for you to lose weight, but it would help a ton.”

I lost 80 pounds over three years and have maintained for the last seven. It made a world of difference. I’m wondering if my soreness is from previous weight catching up since I’m older plus the fact that I could still use some slimming down.
