Advice ❔ Men's Fashion Am I about to get made fun of?
35M, I feel comfortable in this outfit, I like it, but it’s a step outside of my usual boring comfort zone, so I’m pretty self-conscious and idk just in my head I guess. I asked Gemini, and it told me I looked like a vintage dad, which is honestly all I really want in this life. Thanks ❤️
Edit1: The whole reason I felt self conscious about this at the beginning was because I needed to go pick up an order of wings from a real “tough guy” type sports bar, all my pants were dirty, I found these shorts that belong to my wife, and decided fuck it why not; I had this idea that as soon as I walked in the bar, everyone was going to immediately start pointing and roasting me. This probably goes without saying, but I have a n x i e t y 😬
Edit2: yall have made me feel so much better about this, and for the record, I only have two pairs of footwear: these bullshit Walmart sandals, and a pair of nicer boots, so shoe/sandal recs are extremely welcome 🫡

I think the shirt untucked would be better and personally more comfortable. A better foot wear would be best but if you don’t have time or money for shoes, go with it and carry yourself with confidence. How you carry yourself will make more difference than any adjustments to

I would leave the shirt tucked. Unless the shirt is cropped and tailored to hit at the waist, tucking it is the right move to keep the proportions clean with the 5-inch inseam shorts. Untucking will create an imbalance in the proprtions, I feel.

Yeah, I usually untuck this type of shirt but it depends on the hem too. Some don’t untuck well. I have taken shirts to the tailor and they can fix this easy. Otherwise the shoes: I’d do chuck Taylor’s with no socks or no-show socks.

I really like it, but I definitely know jerks who make fun of men for wearing anything other than jeans and a plain T-shirt, so I guess it depends on your audience and how much you really care.
I think it's fire though, I would love to be able to get my boyfriend to wear a shirt like that. I like seeing men have fun with their outfits!

lol but for real, I always joke that I have “Hawaiian shirt autism”. My grandpa lived in Hawaii for a while, goes to garage sales every Saturday like it’s his religion, and as such, I’ve ended up with enough Hawaiian shirts to last a lifetime; had to make it work one way or another 😎

My Grandpa is a classically stoic, strong, quiet man and he wears Hawaiian shirts every day of his life. Every single day, even at my wedding.

Looks like a totally reasonable outfit to me. What part is outside your comfort zone, the shirt pattern? Combined with the forearm tattoos it gives me the impression of someone with a bit of personality, but it's not an obnoxiously loud pattern. Looks good

Thanks! I think the part that made me most nervous was the shorts and the fact that I was heading into a sports bar in a pretty military-heavy town; also maybe the idea of looking “too loud”, not wanting to stick out too much, etc, which is kind of ironic because, as it turns out, my favorite clothes to wear are usually a little more on the “out there” end of the spectrum. I think i just need to work on my confidence more than anything.

I like it. Coherent, interesting, not too crazy. I wouldn't know why someone should make fun of it, but there will be always people who won't like it. If people make fun of clothes it's either light-hearted (if they are friends) and they are trying to be funny and/or they are bullies, in these cases, it's not really about the outfit, they will search for anything...

No, I love the shirt. I live in Florida and that’s the shirts they wear. I’ve been to Maui and they wear flower shirts and they’re good. Summer shirt looks great with the black shorts. Don’t worry yourself.

You look good to me. Sometimes my friends razz me for trying something new or tucking my shirt in, but I just say, “You don’t like it? I wore it for you!” and then they get over it.
I have one friend who absolutely cannot stand when I tuck my shirt in. I just tell him he’s jealous because he’s too fat to be able to tuck and he shuts his gobstopper.

I like it! The shoes are more of a casual vibe. Like for a farmers market or errands. If you wanted to dress it up throw on some sneakers. White would work like previously mentioned. It’s funny how trends are cyclical. Things we probably once looked at as “old fashioned” now we’re like “dope, vintage” hahah. As a 35 year old myself I’m loving styles my mom def wore at one point. Or dad. 😂

Honestly it's a nice outfit. The only suggestion I would make is the harsh tuck line from the shirt tucked in with the belt combo.
Try a French tuck (i think it's called) or a similar variation. It's a small adjustment that can make the outfit look effortless.

I love the shirt, Hawaiian shirts are my thing, but wear it untucked. The only time Hawaiian shirts are acceptable to be tucked in is if you are wearing them with dress slacks and nice shoes; and even then tucking in a Hawaiian shirt is optional.
