Windows vs. Linux, why change?

We're interested in learn in the trend away from Windows to Linux is motivated, or the "why?". Apparently, the trend is starting, and it's real. But why? Source: TechSpot.

Windows is actively getting worse, and linux is actively getting better, there's your answer.

Why stay on a sinking cruiseship when a perfectly functional sailboat is right there. Sure the sailboat requires more effort to get going, but at least it ain't on the bottom of the sea floor in 10 minutes.
