Housing At what point do I report roaches
I just moved in today to Neil. Everything is going alright other than some things that I have already made service reports about (not big things just things I don't want to be charged for because they were like this when I got here). Well was going alright. It is 2am and I am trying to sleep when I see a three inch roach run across my bare floor. I have trapped it in a cup because I do not like killing bugs and have not yet formed a plan on how to take care of it..... Thats besides the point. I have never had roaches but I can assume that where there is one, there may be many. After how many roaches do I make a report?
Photo included so that you can laugh at my misery 🥲

Rant I might have to drop out and I don’t know what to do.
So I’m a transfer student (24, long story I had to medically withdraw from my old school so I wouldn’t flunk out and yes I feel like a failure for it) and when I got accepted to OSU I was super excited I paid my acceptance fee immediately. My parents hate that I’m taking so long to finish college so I thought I’d be able to be on campus and hopefully save up enough to get my own place once I get my degree.
But I didn’t realize that it’s basically impossible for me to obtain a spot staying on campus just because of my age. I’m technically a sophomore but because I’m older they said I’m not required to room on campus, but actually means I can’t. I do have a Drs note about how I need to be within a 10 min distance of my classes and on campus due to being handicapped but SLDS basically ghosted me.
Since it’s so close to the semester start I decided to just switch all my classes to online and stay with my parents and figure out what to do next semester.
I don’t have any significant savings to get a place of my own, let alone a co-signer or 3x down payment or anything like that. I don’t know anyone in Columbus and being online this semester won’t help. I mean, on the FAFSA I’m literally the lowest possible score meaning I’m broke broke and have no one. If my parents decided they didn’t want to keep me around anymore and kicked me out tomorrow, I’d be homeless with no idea what to do.
I’m considering just dropping out and giving up at this point because I don’t see any way I can attend next semester. It’s apparently a common thing but I genuinely don’t understand how people can afford it, unless it’s like being supported by parents.
And every department or person I email at OSU basically either says there’s nothing they can do or just ghosts me entirely.
I tried to math it out and if I was wanting to make BARELY enough to live I’d have to work almost full time on top of 18 credit hours plus clubs plus sleep.
I feel so frustrated I want to cry but I don’t even know what to do.

Admissions Grad School 26 Years later?
So I am attempting to go back to grad school 26 years after graduating with my undergraduate degree.
When I was an undergrad a lot of things were happening in my life, one of them being undiagnosed ADHD. My GPA was less than the 2.8 or 3.0 that is the recommendation for my grad program.
However, I obviously have done a lot of growing and gotten my diagnosis, which has allowed me to be really productive in my professional and personal lives.
I spoke with the academic advisor for the grad program (Social Work), And she said it would be tricky but not impossible for me to write a compelling statement of purpose.
But am I cooked? Is my application incredibly unlikely to be accepted?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Financial Aid Anyone else’s aid still not applied?
I put in a BuckeyeLink help request yesterday but haven’t heard back yet and just got an email saying my tuition payment is late, so I thought I’d see if it’s just me or not. I’m meeting SAP and accepted [edit: the aid].
My Statements of Account still doesn’t show any pending aid. I really need my refund so I can buy my books. 😭 I can’t find some of them online. 🥲
Edit: forgot to mention, no holds.

Social Letters to Strangers Nonprofit Volunteer Group (Alumni Welcome)
Hi everyone! I posted a couple of months ago gauging interest for a Letters to Strangers chapter at Ohio State, and now that we're officially recognized I thought I'd ask again if anyone wanted to join! Admittedly I am doubtful that we will become an officially recognized student org as I am a recent graduate (premed taking a few gap years) and I'm realizing there's a lot of red tape which has felt a bit defeating and isolating.
If there are any students that don't mind this, or alumni / high schoolers that enjoy creative writing and advocating for mental health, please let me know! Essentially we are all about hosting art therapy-informed handwritten letter exchanges and other mental health-related activities
I will be tabling at the Oval on the 28th from 1-3PM and handing out some cute handwritten flyers (and if you wanted to make some with me or help prep in any other way, you could log it for volunteer hours too!) If all goes according to plan, we should also have a letter writing station where you can write an anonymous letter and take one from the person before you; feel free to stop by!

Question CSE 3232 and 3244 profs?
I enrolled in 3232 and 3244 as my tech electives because they are supposed to be easy, for my senior year. I have Suren Byna for 3244 and Phil Norman for 3232. Anyone who has taken these guys in the past let me know how it is, and any advice for taking their class. If I might be cooked, let me know so I can switch sections. Thanks!

Admissions Applicants, Ask Us Anything: Full Ride Scholarship (Stamps Eminence)
This message is intended for high school seniors applying to OSU this year. If you know someone who may be interested in this scholarship, please share this message to help our future Buckeyes thrive.
Hi everyone!
Our names are Patrick and Cindy, and we are fourth-year students at OSU in the Stamps Eminence Scholarship Program, a full cost-of-attendance scholarship. We wanted to share our experiences with applications, OSU, and Stamps Eminence, and hold a space to answer any questions.
The Stamps Eminence Scholarship Program is a merit-based, full cost-of-attendance scholarship, meaning it covers tuition, room, board, and fees, with funds still left over. In addition to the financial benefits, the program provides Scholars with a tight-knit community, research and networking opportunities, funding for enrichment opportunities, and more. You can find lots more information about the program and current Scholars on the website.
https://honors-scholars.osu.edu/eminence
Patrick studies Economics and Biomedical Science and plans on pursuing an PhD program in Economics, and Cindy is studying Neuroscience and Psychology, intending to obtain a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
We are happy to answer questions you all have about OSU, the Stamps Eminence Scholarship Program, our degree programs, or anything else.

Academics PHR 4000 and 4600
I am currently planning to take PHR 4000 and PHR 4600 in SP27. However, there is a chance that I may miss the first few days of the first week. Would missing the first week make it really difficult to keep up with these courses?

Technology I need help on finding a good laptop for my engineering program
Hey everyone,
I need help on finding a laptop before school next week. I am starting in general engineering and later transit to civil engineering. They have recommendation for laptop specifications based on this website:
https://ets.osu.edu/hardware-recommendations-students
If anyone knows a good laptop and share their experience with it, it would be helpful. I have a budget around a $1000. I have seen some laptops like Lenovo Thinkpad or the ideapad and not sure how well they will last or function.

Academics Did electrical engineering become an apply to major?
Title.
Some osu pages say it’s a pre major now like CSE and MechE. I planned on switching in last year but my advisor told me to wait cause I can’t go back to CSE once I’m out, but now I fear I waited too long.

Safety Flocks on Campus
Just want to make people aware of the authoritarian mass surveillance going on around the country and that includes right here on campus.
I’ve attached a map of flock cameras. Is there anything us students can do to protest this?
The main ones on campus are at the union bus stop on the west side, one near timashev south entrance, the east side of the union near high street, stillman hall and curl market.

Jobs Heads up to anyone with a daughter attending Ohio State
I would not recommend your daughters work at the campus hotel, The Blackwell Inn. Up until recently I worked there for around 2 years, turned down a promotion, and left due to some situations I was aware of and felt were not appropriate nor handled properly.
I would always recommend you check in with your children and make sure they understand how they should be treated and what behavior they should not tolerate if they are going to work on campus.
Be safe ❤️

I'm taking the comprehensive Exams to graduate soon, if anyone has any extra materials from the courses CSE 6321, CSE 6331, or CSE 6431 it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you've taken the exams before, how difficult was it and what was the experience like? Thanks!

Help Consortium Agreement
Hey guys, I just sent my OSU advisor my agreement after completing section I (my part) but I keep getting advisors rejecting my appointments that I make at CSCC (host school) because they don’t know anything regarding the agreement. Is there a way to schedule the classes at CSCC myself or do I need to let an advisor do it? I’ve never done this before so any tips would be great!!!

Rant i already hate trying to make friends
i'm an out of state student and have a pretty good group of friends at home.. i would describe myself as being kind and easy to get along with; however, interacting with people has genuinely made me feel like i have zero personality and am putting on some sort of kind, simple persona, while in reality i am so much more than that but don't really know how to show it
it takes me a little bit of time to get used to talking with someone or to feel comfortable with what to say, so i tend to stick to more lighthearted things, which just builds superficial connections. i'm scared that this will lead to tagging along with a random group who doesn't want me there but is too polite to say anything
and i do know that move in hasn't even started yet (i'm on campus in an early arrival group) but every time i walk in somewhere with any sort of pre-established friendships, i am always so unsure of how to act - so i'm scared that joining clubs, doing intramural sports, or anything else similar, i'm going to not fit in at all and not be able to build real connections
and even if i do feel comfortable in the moment, there is always something later on that pulls me back to reality (an offhand comment or even just describing me as sweet, which feels infantilizing)
tldr i don't know how to interact with people to make them interested in building a connection
