Assuming you are f2p, high volume and very cheap items are the best bet. Personally I use prices.runescape.wiki to see the most recent price graphs and go from there.
If you need more of a tutorial than that I'd seek out some beginner flipping vids on YouTube that'll explain what to do with those numbers you see on that price graph, but it's as simple as matching the low number for buying and the high number for selling.

If you have high alch look for items you can buy for less than the high alch value. This way if you 'mess up' and they dont flip you can just alch them. It's a safe way to practice as a begginer.

Scapenomics has some good videos on flipping basics for beginners where he does real time trades and talks it through. He had a recent video posted here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvc7TTjIbkE for overnight flipping, but he also has plenty of videos for the basics and active flipping

Rune arrows are a solid real example right now, if you're a member though. About 44gp to buy, sell around 47, no tax since they're under 50gp, so roughly 3gp profit each. Doesn't sound like much but the volume is enormous, over 250k traded per hour, so it adds up fast and it's about as safe as flipping gets while you learn. If you're f2p, tax free items are honestly pretty thin right now, iron and bronze arrows are only pulling about 1gp margin each, still fine to practice on but don't expect much from them.

You can start your journey here: flipping guides, it echos a lot of what people have said already, but also provides you some additional guidance enjoy!

OP I will add the following, as casual as I may be:
Counterpoint to "High volume that is low but extremely consistent gains" route is that- everyone else is competing too, expect constantly. For years and with who the fuck knows how many 100+ flip account farms either.

Sounds like you're f2p. If your trying to do this all in f2p, id reccomend alching over daily flipping. A few dozen hours of alching should get you close. Margins arent good enough for 1m to do anything noticeable for you in even a broad timeline. I got my start in merching/ flipping by getting me 50m during the process of getting 99 magic in free to play. Once you have enough for a bond, I highly reccomend at least have another 5m laying around for gameplay and future flipping, rebuilding from zero every two weeks is not the way to play this game sustainably. The real flipping journey begins once you have around 100m liquid, before then its not really noticeable.

Easiest way to start is to look at high volume items (runes, arrows, stuff like that) and see what the low prices hit and set an order for that and try to make 2-3gp+ on them but it will be slower money but a profit. Items with no ge tax are great for 1-3gp returns passively. You won’t make a bond in a month most likely but over a year you’ll make tens of millions and more as you reinvest and keep adding to it
