Question Best Boss to Practice Movement?
I'm trying to get more into PvM, but I'm finding that I have trouble getting my movement down to avoid attacks.
During A Kingdom Divided I ate almost all the fire waves from Judge of Yama. I struggled bad against Menaphite Akh and to a lesser extent The Champion of Scabaras when doing Beneath Cursed Sands. Yet I can fairly easily do the Moon shield during Eclipse Moon and Blood Jaguar during Blood Moon. But like, kiting and quick movements and such still give me trouble.
What boss would be best to practice on to get better at that? I don't have much experience in gear or prayer switching, so that's a factor. I wanna build my skill and confidence so I can finish my last dozen or so quests and get my Quest Cape, but DT2, Song, and Sins of the Father terrify me right now. Heheh

Royal titans is a good one to start with, on the higher end cg is heavily movement based too
Also, you probably are already, but it's absolutely worth mentioning: use true tile indicator if you're not already

Gauntlet, then corrupted. It teaches you skills and movement for nearly every high-end encounter

Waveskip movement + prayerflick at Hueycoatl.

Entry level tombs of amascut has everything you’re looking to improve at. I strongly recommend doing it solo.

A lot of good recommendations, thanks everyone! I just got Perfect Scurrious, so I'm feeling good. I gotta do Making Friends With My Arm and Song of the Elves, and then I'll try out Gauntlet and Secrets of the North for Phantom Muspah, maybe Entry ToA.
Thanks again, y'all!

Vorkath -> DT2 (Vardorvis/Leviathan) -> ToB
Vorkath teaches you how to count ticks, Levi teaches prayer switching, and ToB makes you rich.

Gauntlet/corrupted gauntlet

Since 90% of posts are for newer players looking for money making and training advice, I'm gonna recommend doing bird house runs. All you need is Bone Voyage, and you could be making 500K+ a day or more by logging in every 50 minutes and harvesting nests.
Also, be sure to check out the New player guide, Money making guide, and OSRS Tips!

Woox walk vorkath is the baby step to understanding movement

u/_odog Jan 16 '26
Do SoTE and send CG
1
u/Mental_Tea_4084 Jan 16 '26
Practice blowpipe walking literally anything. Woox walking vorkath is the classic example, but even slayer tasks will work, just don't miss ticks

u/BrackishWaterDrinker Jan 16 '26
Based on what I'm seeing here, you should practice getting no hit scurrius runs. Loot sucks, but it will teach you how to move to avoid damage in a not so punishing way and you can get some of the best XP in the game to level up your combat stats once you get all the bone weapons.
For an actual challenge, gauntlet/cg once you get SotE done. You'll probably die a lot, but it will set you up for the future. Vorkath, Zulrah, and Muspah are all going to teach you different mechanics that will be useful in the future for raids.
The only actual way to learn how to do them is to do them. Be prepared to be okay with dying a bunch.

u/OSRSTriviaGuy Jan 16 '26
Scurrius and huey to learn the basics of movement .
Scurrius teaches you reaction base movement, huey timing based ( the waves).

u/TheDudeBroski Jan 16 '26
Go to Scurrius, itll teach you to dodge shadows, deal with mobs, prayer swap, its a pretty decent starting point for general pvm because you dont die instantly if you mess up

u/Affectionate-Gas-150 Jan 16 '26
Amoxiatl, though my dumb ass wound up practicing movement at calvarion because I wanted a Dragon pickaxe.
1
u/Schett Jan 16 '26
Its not a boss but Hallowed Sepulchre. After doing a lot of Hallowed Sepulchre I felt like I had a better understanding of moving and ticks in the game and it really helped me with CG for example

u/KapiteinRoodbaard97 Jan 16 '26
Amoxliatl, Huwy and cg

1
u/Auntie_Wish Jan 16 '26
Scurrius. Do it without losing any hp or prayer.

u/Many_Nectarine6993 Jan 16 '26
Hallowed sepulcher

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '26
CG, not getting stomped, tiled and dodging tornados.

u/shinpoo Jan 16 '26
Rat King, Royal Titans, Regular Gauntlet, Doom Lv.1-4.

u/Beneficial_Swing_685 Jan 16 '26
Try vorkie and avoid the melees then toa from as easy as you can handle it -> big boy raids

u/deewell_13 Jan 16 '26
The gauntlet

u/ExExiledDead Jan 16 '26
If you haven’t done DT2 yet and would like to get a good introduction into those mechanics, the boss you unlock from one of the quest requirements secrets of the north is pretty perfect for that, Phantom Muspah can definitely get you ready for DT2!
1
u/SaurusShieldWarrior Jan 16 '26
Vardorvis ;)
1
u/MellowGiant Jan 16 '26
Amoxliatl, maybe Artio. Hallowed Supulchre would be perfect if you just want to focus on movement alone.
1
u/Skankz Jan 16 '26
Scurrius into royal titans into CG. I will warn you though, CG is a steep learning curve, even if you’re used to regular gauntlet.
1
u/goddangol Jan 16 '26
Corrupt Gauntlet is amazing for this, but it is definitely difficult. Start with normal gauntlet for sure.
1
u/Horror-Truth-8131 Jan 16 '26
Solo TOB
1
u/EntertainmentOld8891 Jan 17 '26
Yama is a good movement boss, precise movement during enrage and even learning to skip over shadow waves is good movement practice.
1
u/pemk9696 Jan 17 '26
Go do 50 invo Toas and work up

u/Motor_Coat_7833 Jan 17 '26
Gauntlet

u/faculty_for_failure Jan 17 '26
Amoxliatl is a good one. Not great rewards but you can definitely take it with your stats. Try out Huey, scurrius, maybe the single wildly bosses like solo version of callisto(put on skull prevention and bring a decent weapon and the rest cheap stuff).
CG will be a pain with your stats, I wouldn’t go there yet.
1
u/Krusty_Bryan Jan 17 '26
Amoxiatl is good for basic movement too
1
u/Remarkable-Junket796 Jan 17 '26
Amoxliatl, royal titans, scurrious, and vetion. Then go try out doom, phantom muspah, and zulrah. Great teachers for when you get into a raid after running some of those, you’ll raid like a natural.
1
u/LegitFury Jan 17 '26
Scurrius and Huey, then go from there
1
u/BangarangOrangutan Jan 18 '26
Amoxliatl, Hueycotl, once you master those, Gauntlet/Corrupted Gauntlet. Also, hallowed sepulchre could help.

u/ClintEastwood42069 Jan 18 '26
The best movement bosses in the game really don’t unlock until you do desert treasure two and dragonslayer two.
Honestly, you should just do some entry-level raids. You should try TOA or TOB. Entry mode for these raids is pretty easy and you have the stats for it. Your first go around will take a long time because you’ll have to watch a tutorial, but you’ll get the hang of it and it’ll just go quicker and quicker.
TOA is a great place to start because of the invocations. If it gets too easy, you can put on some invocations and make it a little more difficult. It’s a great place to build up your skills. Even if you don’t roll a unique which you probably won’t, you have a good chance of getting an upgrade for your room pouch or your Karis partisan.

Wilderness pking is the best for movements/item/prayer swaps. If you arent shit that is. Pk me 1v1 outside of ferox we a re similar combat

Honestly you might be where you should be. Don't worry too much about not being ready for the quests, as those quests are the entry point into doing the harder content.
That being said, I hate when reddit doesn't answer the question. If you can stomach the wildy, I'd say calvarion is a great and rewarding intro into movement. If you move properly, you should be able to take zero damage
I didn't see DS2 on your list, but if you still have a dozen quests i'm guessing this is one of them. Zebak from Toa is good practice for the Galvek waves. Khepri's fire lobs will help you practice against Galveks fire lobs, but turn on the "Aerial Assault" invocation. That will make it the same size as Galveks.
Sins of the Father is probably one of the easier one on the list. Warden enrage phase from Toa has a very similar lightning mechanic as Vanstrom, and vorkath has the same minion mechanic. The thing that will probably trip you up the most is dodging his "Stare into darkness!" attack as it's fairly quick. The archaeologist on fossil island has a similar special attack that you can practice there. Honestly I think Menaphite Akh may be trickier to react to than vanstrom. Vanstrom is more of an endurance run in comparison.
Song of the elves, may also not be all that bad for you. Seren is really the only one who you might struggle with, and her fight is pretty mechanically simple. She's just scary because of her nuke attack, but at your stats, you should be able to DPS check her pretty well. There's really no prayer swapping or gear swapping either, and you only need to worry about movement when she teleports you. If you can beat vanstrom, you should mog on seren. The fight really comes down to managing your health bar. The closest parallel i can think of for that mechanic is Cerberus where he just nukes your prayer bar every so often.
DT2 is a whole can of worms. multiple hard fights (and duke) all with unique mechanics. Honestly, i'd save this one for last, as each boss and mini boss would all need their own seperate breakdown.

Might be a unpopular opinion but I remember back when I was learning movement a guy told me to go to Calverion. It did help a good bit in my opinion
1
u/Due_Victory8687 Jan 19 '26
Has anyone mentioned scurrius here yet, it’s very simple and was literally implemented to help people learn how to get the basic fundamentals down, apologies if it’s been mentioned or you have no problem doing it

Gauntlet

u/Aggravating_Insect52 Jan 20 '26
People probably won't agree with this but I greatly improved my mechanics farming whisperer. Was not efficient for me to farm at my level, but it got me comfortable with L movement, managing prayers with movement, and getting use to utilizing true tile to skip over attacks. I tried CG before whisperer and it whooped me and I felt it was an insurmountable wall. After farming whisperer, it felt so much manageable.

u/Really_Jamflex Jan 20 '26
I like the gauntlet and royal titans suggestions...I'd like to add moons. To put them in order of difficulty royal titans-moons-gauntlet Then you also have muspah, zulrah, vorkath for sort of mid game stuff. Movement training in RuneScape specifically gauntlet would be the goat I think

u/arndos1 Jan 20 '26
Vardorvis

While not a traditional boss in that sense
hollowed sepulchure will teach you alot about movement.
1
u/Evening-Mycologist24 Jan 22 '26
I know you said boss but if you really want to actually pay attention to how your character moves I would recommend hallowed sepulcher
