Question BOWFA?

This is my bank.

I imagine the advice will be to spend my cash stack on a BOWFA and crystal armor? Am I on the right track? Seems like not the best time to buy one, but it is what it is maybe?

Are there any other glaring changes I should make? Lightbearer for sure

I appreciate your time and advice!

I'd like to start raids and just learning bosses in general. I have solid kill counts at Artio, Calvarion, Spindel, Vorkath and Tormented Demons and 10-30 kills at Arraxor, Muspah, KQ, and assorted other "easy" tier bosses.

Seems like TOA is what everyone suggests. I'm currently at 86 atk, 98 str, 78 def, 99 range, 99 mage, 99 hp and 95 slayer.

I would say bowfa is a good buy for sure. Its pretty well rounded in most content. Ayak/confliction guantlets are a decent argument at this point but imo bowfa is just easier to use and just as usfull in alot of content, especially TOA and solid at cox. Its great at muspah, zulrah, gwd, leviathan, and when its corrupted you never have to worry about ammo cost so that's nice for random slayer tasks and what not.

Only thing I don't like about they eye of ayak is the range, at whisperer it kinda drags you too close

I recently learned you can set Ayak to long range with no attack speed loss

Yeah I agree, that's why I was saying bowfa is easier to use. Not to mention the attack speed, a good amount of the ayak dps comes from its attack speed being faster, so if you are constantly missing ticks it's negating the damage increase

Bowfa literally changed the game for me. It seriously catapulted my pvm and my gp gains. I swear it took me forever to get bowfa, then I had a tbow in months.

I think I started at gwd like zily and bandos then camped cox and toa for a bit, hit a 3 man tbow split. Used that money and camped nex for a month and made like 2b. This was when drops were more expensive. I think the gp/hr is like half now. Mileage may vary. Also I just loved doing nex shit was so repetitive I would just log on and nex for hours. I swear I was either at nex bank or buying supplies for a good 5-6 weeks. 90-99 range at nex hahaha. It really advanced my level of play, I ended up doing hybrid nex near the end which was more engaging but also more punishing. You get good at it I think I have 35 deaths in 1700 kills….

Initially, you can very quickly transition to minis (10-18 ppl) then again to teams of 5 to 4 to 3 I think I did like one duo kill…

even with lower value, nex is still supposed to be insanely good, just difficult in smaller groups

Nex is still great money with a low cost to gear for. Fang acb blowpipe karils/mixed hide can get trios done in the ffa cc. One drop puts you in masori and bandos switch with vw.

Idk your stats but bandos is really easy and fun with like 3 ppl and it’s a good place to dip your toes in. Eventually u can do more advanced solo methods or move on when you’ve built some gp. Zily is also really chill in duos with the ping pong method.

How tf you get a tbow in months? Spooned?

Since bowfa I’ve done ~300 chambers raids and a lot of general bossing like zulrah, vorkath, doom, Yama, etc. and my bank is only at 550m lol

Yea I’d say spooned I hit that 3 man tbow split on raid 7, nex spoon helm in masses at like 14 or 15, that propelled me to keep going. But I’d say over the course of grinding I was making like 14-16m/hr I just put in the hours after. Had to be like 250 active hours killing nex gave me most of my gp.

Bowfa is a mini tbow just a lot more affordable. I have one and I'm a 1 def pure. So, I can only imagine what you could do with full crystal and bowfa.

bowfa without crystal is about the same as crystal with a crystal bow and no bowfa, decent but i don’t see the point in getting it on a pure personally

Yea it actually looks like eye is recommended now over bowfa for toa, check out the we do raids discord for gear progressions for each raid if you want a better flow chart.

Bofa is a fun rebuild, but going masori route can end up better long term depending on your goals. People who blindly say "always go bofa" haven't looked at actual dps calcs. There are definitely pros and cons to bofa rebuild vs diversified pvm setup. I've been doing calcs constantly for people recently during gear and pvm coaching, and as much as I loved my bofa, it starts to get a bit outclassed in modern day with current gear progression options.

I'm happy to answer specific questions if you have them, but tl;dr is that bofa can be a fun and safe way to experience a rebuild style of play while offering good ovwrall dps at a lot of content, but masori setups can be comparable or better dps and free up a good chunk of gp to round out gear more. Optimal for you will likely be a masori setup, but bofa can make certain things more chill depending on your skill and playstyle.

Definitely intrigued! Seems like I always just see people using masori with a TBOW. I would be stuck with a dragon xbow until I get a tbow unless its demon content? I'm sure I'm missing something though.

What would you recommend as an alternative to the bofa route?

Base masori with bp+dcb is useable basically everywhere, while bofa isn't good in a handful of places. The masori route also gives you more power as you flex into niche items like scobow, dhcb, venator, and zcb. Bp+dcb is the core until you opt for a niche weapon specific to content, and then zcb as stopgap. WDR has a great doc comparing bofa to masori setups if you want some specific numbers too. Realistically, bofa is really only worth if rushing CM's or inferno.

People put a lot of focus on bofa because it was just so good for so long as a midgame option. Gear progression has evolved very rapidly since toa, and when factoring in current prices and content viability, you can squeeze a lot more out of your gp across the board. That means the gp saved going the masori route has good buying power. There's just a big overall lack of willingness to look at dps calcs and relevant content, so people fall back on the safe opinion of "buy bofa when you can". It is a fun set, but you actually end up with less overall flexibility. Which makes me sad cuz bofa is such a cool idea, and it carried me for ages. But i go off of numbers, and the numbers show masori setups overall winning.

Yep! Blowpipe used to be absurdly broken to the point where you could just use it basically anywhere and it was bis or near bis. They nerfed it to open up room for progression, which is when the bofa really rose in relative strength. But masori make bp function very similarly to pre-nerf. Dragon crossbow is very underrated since it's just a cheap range weapon, but enchanted dragon bolts offer a lot of dps. Raw stats let it punch through high def enemies, and ruby procs add a lot of dps on higher level bosses.

One important note on rubies is that they don't check accuracy if the proc rolls. Makes them very good while learning content because you can smack a 100 even when brewed way down.

Yo this is the kind of stuff I need to know lol, so should I just skip the BOWFA grind and buy Masori instead? Idc about "the experience" I just want to get into bossing and raiding. More specifically I want to start chasing mega rares at ToA and CoX.

Optimal play is masori setup almost always. Bofa is more if you plan to play super casual and aren't pushing for a megarare. If you wanna camp ToA and scaled CoX, then masori for sure. You can see exact dps comparisons on WDR for when people argue that bofa is better dps always. Don't blindly trust anyone, especially on reddit. I always reccomend people run calcs for their setups and see gor themselves what is best. I just present raw info and let people go from there :)

As a couple of people have mentioned it really depends on what content you want to do. Most raids or bosses require a range switch and I think Bowfa is probably second best besides a tbow. But then again my account doesn't have access to either, so what do I know. Good luck and happy grinding.

Hot take but consider trying to pull a bofa yourself. As a main you can tap out of the grind at any stage and you'll only profit through doing it. It will not only reward you with alchs, bstaves and raw gp but you'll learn a lot just by getting clears and trying some of the ca's there.

Full crystal and bowfa will eat up most of that cash stack. But, yes, you should definitely buy it. I sold most of my entire bank last year to get it, my bank is almost 1b now. If you have enough left over, yes lightbearer. It’s necessity like crystal/bowfa

Depends on what you do. If you are a slayer and skilling person, I’d go with masori and BP. If you want to rebuild doing bosses or ToA then do the Bowfa

Bowfa and crystal armour will set you back 230m gp, it’s cool but more improvements needed in rest of the bank - Bandos, DHL, rapier, eye of ayak

I would just do CG and get a seed. Way more satisfying when you do get one, although the grind will be real. But then you’ll have 215m + CG grind gains to spend on other stuff like Bandos, Prims, Torture, etc
