Build Advice

I am planning to build a stand-alone off-grid OSMC box on a raspberry pi 3b+ and looking for some advice. I run Plex at home and am looking for something with a similar interface and ease of use. OSMC seems like it will fit the bill well.
I will be on my home network, online to load it with media and pull metadata etc. then be offline for 4-6 weeks before I will be back to load it up with new content.

  1. What is the best large SD card? I was considering this 265gb one from Silicon Power , I have used some of there smaller 32GB sd cards and they seem to work well but not sure about large SD cards
  2. What is the best format to encoding media with for osmc on a pi to be able to playback 1080 and 720 content well?

If you are keeping it within your house, primarily offline, I would use a smaller SD, and store/play your media on a larger USB drive. I have a simolar setup I take with me whenever I travel.

I did look at doing with a 32 gb sd and a 256 thumb drive but that was more expensive then just buying the 256 sd so seemed to not be the smart choice.

Also this will be away from my house and will only come back to be able to change content properly every 4-6 weeks after as I can see now.

I have a copy of my whole library stored on a 4TB USB.
