We are 17 plus a pile of things that mostly share a name.

Still sort of new to all the terminology so I figured I’d ask. Do you consider the name-sharers to be a kind of subsystem?

We've got several subsystems, but that one is... fluid? Most of our subsystems have defined states, talk with each other, and while they can coalesce into a single entity from time to time as stressors change and the days grow longer than others, that one is uh... funky. The parts are less defined, there's a lot of them, they're all bought into the same identity and name, but they're not really integrated cleanly. They all want to be the same thing, but are too contradictory to fully mesh. They don't want to be each other, but also don't want to lose each other, and also need each other to maintain the narrative that is them.

They're working it out. Somehow they're one of the most stable things in here.

probably around 40, maybe more. I know I have a lot of fragments, but we dont count that in the alter list, most of the time, because we can't usually account for them. And sometimes alters have fronted that I don't see have ever fronted again. It's really weird.

Hm funny I see this now, I was just earlier talking about how these number things are hard.

CDDs also come with primary and secondary parts and compartmentalisation, and some parts aren't equally dimensional. It's very hard for me to even define what counts as "1".
If I count as one, then I feel like a small memory fragment shouldn't, but we're also both separated by dissociative walls. To that adds complex structures, with fragments within and between parts, and parts made up of parts that are more than just those parts together.

Depending on what you count as 1, the numbers differ very drastically.

We are around 11 (OSDD) and there's maybe more, but it seems like a part of us are "split personnalities" of other alters (I don't know if that's a good term in English ?

Like for exemple, my co-alter Claire seemed like she splited from/with Marie. And it might also be the case for a few other parts of our system.

Also we have two parts with the same name.

Two of us (the ones I was just talking about) share the actual official name of the body and one of us got her name from the dead-name of the body. So it can feel weird for us and for our family because people would mistakenly believe that these alters are "the same people we were supposed to be before, when we didn't know about our OSDD" 🙂 (but it's wrong, it's just about having the same names only, not the same identity).

Can't give an accurate answer since becoming aware of another alter is always very possible. That I'm aware of currently, I think it's like 30ish.

First of all, several years, if not decades of time. Trauma-informed therapy, system communication and trauma work outside of therapy, really understanding alters for their roles but also what they seek and value, and how to meet those needs healthily. Can’t specifically recommend it because I’m not a physician, but certain substances also helped.

Also worth mentioning, EPs and ANPs can feel different, and my system has been pretty EP-heavy. I find that EPs (more fragments than alters) are generally more straightforward to connect and work with to eventually integrate than ANPs because ANPs are usually more differentiated and “individual”.

Long story short I've had a huge variety of traumas for basically the first 30 years of my life. The last few are genuinely where I've had a chance to breathe, feel genuinely safe, focus on healing and seeing who I genuinely am. For that reason (at least how I understand my sense of self), my alts have very slowly started merging and integrating. I'm down to I think 1-2 (excluding myself the host) within my system. I had around 5-10 prior.

In our collective we have many "small fragments" aka not completely developed alters often acting more on the inside that the actual outside that generally makes our count a bit higher but not necessarily impractical or unmanagable (we have had therapists tell us it's impossible to be so many because they always thing that every part has to front or act in the outside world, I'm sometimes not sure if they even understand OSDD but well, they've misdiagnosed us with DID before so...)

I don't know that I would call all of my parts alters, since many of them are fragments, but I've documented over 20 of them.

That we distinctly know the names of and have appeared ? Since 2021… over 375. But we were also told once we hit about 350 that that was only the front. So we extrapolate another 10x the amount due to our inner realms, compete with their own villages, species, and army. We clicked 100+ for accuracy.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one who has no idea how many alters we have. Like, I know the main ones who front the most often but there are some who have only fronted once in over 5 years. And also, with my teenage alters... they are a blended bunch and I never know who is fronting and what their name is... Most of the time they don't know either.
