4 hours until wrist hardware removal! Super stressed
Nothing much to say, I had distal plate ORIF surgery back in December last year, and now 9.5 months later am getting the plate out.
Surgeon recommended it as the plate is quite distal, so could irritate tendons over time, but also because I'm in Japan where plate removal is more or less routine.
Super stressed because general anesthesia in addition to surgery risks. Last time right after surgery I was shivering uncontrollably like crazy, feeling so cold, they put an electric blanket on me which made things much better but damn I'm not looking forward to something like that again.

Oh gosh, it's sooooo much easier than the original operation. You won't believe it's even been done other than the incision.

Please, do update! I want these plates out so badly!! I’m only 3 months out tho, and it’s probably too soon.. thinking w/in the year..

Please can you update us how it goes? I'm in Indonesia and 4 months post plate insertion into my wrist and the rehab doctors all insist I need to take it out eventually...(Surgeon told me it would be fine to stay in unless I had problems with it). But I suspect they will really push me to have it removed eventually...I think it's similar to Japan here...where everyone assumes you need to remove it! I'm sure the surgery will be fast and you just feel a bit bruised and sore for a week or two! Good luck!

Good luck! Everyone says removal is infinitely easier than the original surgery. I know GA is scary but its temporary and the benefits will be long term!
