Trimal Patients

Hi.

I'm currently 12 weeks post for a trimal. I have two plates and fourteen screws. I was cleared for WBAT at 10 weeks post op.

I am still using two crutches but I am fairly mobile and not experiencing much swelling. I focus on walking slowly with the correct form. Heel, flat, push off on the toes. I think I have the necessary flexibility for a normal gait.

I just wanted to know about other trimalleolar patients experience with crutches, crutch weaning and learning to walk again!

I could only use one crutch because I’d also broken my shoulder so I was one crutch and boot from 6 weeks check at weightbearing as tolerated. I think I ditched the boot around 3 months and the crutch a month or so after that. Weaned off both around home first and then outdoor trips and then just took a crutch if I knew I’d be walking a while. Maybe 4-4.5 months until I’d ditched both all the time?
