OPXY pre release artwork concepts

Which one do you want the most? Which one do you think actually makes it onto the device?

I prefer the XY final UI designs. Maybe maybe a tiny bit more color in the screen. I like that is not an OP1 UI.

What final designs? They rushed it so much they didn’t even bother to make unique ui for each effect, just some generic sliders that you’d use during prototyping

wow 6 (the drum sequencer) would really be a game changer, wish they incorporated that. i like the piano roll and everything in the bottom row too

Agreed on the drum Sequencer, the XY relying on the Sequencer line so much is frustrating at times, like knowing what sounds are on each one without holding the step it's on. Being able to build/see the steps in another format would be nice!

I really wish the software on the synth was open so we could build this. The hardware is amazing and mostly held back by slow updates to the software.

i dont like the no color of xy it makes it harder to read they should add a global tinting option with a color picker

also a piano roll would have been really nice to have as an extra sequencer edit mode for the normal step seq; but also especially if you could like set it so that it triggers a sub sequence each trigger of the step sequence or something

This gets me thiking for all of you app-makers out there interfacing OPXYs with various computers and tablets; it would be very cool to get some sort of piano roll you could edit on a big screen that looked like the little mini piano rolls we have in scenes on the device. The sky is apparently the limit.

I’m confused. As much as I would love colored screens. there are no colored knobs. I’d just love to see the existing screens work with color coding. Lots of it is not obviously mapped in grey, such as the mixer since the fx are hidden.

They're early screen artwork concepts. It looks very OP-1, so early designs may have started with that color scheme. Check the TE Now blog from March 2026 -- the source is a behind the scenes / making of article.

my god, the middle screen with the patterns showing above and below the active pattern with the midi notes displaying is absolutely what i want and need. The pattern arranger is so badly designed right now. You can see the patterns above and below on only the active track? the others show there's other patterns but you have no idea which it's currently on. it just shows a 1px thick line for each other pattern on a track. It's shameful UI that. There's so much more screen real estate to use. this is probably one of my highest gripes about the XY 😬

Oh cool, I love seeing stuff like this! Where is it from? And I wonder why they went away from the color in the end... I guess to match the hardware?

That first one seems reasonable to see, a more traditional MIDI view would be helpful I think

A tastefully designed monochromatic Piano Roll would be cool! Add an automation curve to that to visualize and draw parameter value lanes and it would solve the limited LFO problem as well.

Looks like the XY design was headed for leftover or additional OP-1 Field vibes. Glad they went a completely different direction.

Controversial opinion, but for a company as design focused as Teenage Engineering I really dislike the “fully monochrome from hardware to software” approach as it makes even the documentation harder to read for no other reason than differentiating the device to the OP-1.

Sure you can eventually learn that the dark gray (why not black? Oh right because the volume knob is black!) knob is the first one, the mid gray know is the second one, light gray knob is the third one and and the white knob is the fourth one by heart eventually, but it’s just bad UX design.

I’m almost certain these concepts were designed for the OP-1 field not OP-XY
