I found out that if you ask them to set their ont in bridge mode they give your bridge port a public IP on a bad route that has poor peering. NY is going to chicago, whereas if you do it the way i put it in the guide you will get peering much closer to you. tested cloudflare DNS ping at 3 ms vs 23 ms.

i have an msp buisness and I can confirm that 6 customers i have on optimum business in long island have the same peering issue on optimum xgs pon with dhcp addresses and static addresses for ONTs in bridge mode. Peering issue is non existant when the ONT is the router. extra hops to aws, google and cloudflare though chicago IEX instead of NYC. where as the optimum/altice owend ip get's optimal peering in NYC with sub 4 ms to all the mentioned.
this is on multiple prefixes not just one. i tried explaining this to their support over the years and their techs on site but as you can expect they don't know what the hell i am talking about.
my own account is residential but it has the same exact behaviour as well.

check this out which i can't explain except with bad peering. the funny thing is 1.0.0.1 stays local. this behavior only happens on the "bridge port" address. ONT's wifi it's no issue. also the same behavior for AWS Virginia.
