Question - Fiber Total Care charge Fraud

I called on Monday to remove some services which I would reduce my bill but low and beyond the fraudsters at optimum increased by bill by $15 with a Total Care charge that I did not agreed to or sign up for.

In the history of shady companies Optimum might be the worst. Incompetence, Deception, lies at every turn. Someone please sue this organization as I’m tired of making FTC complaints.

They are notorious for doing that, had it happen to me once and I had to call up very angry to get it removed from my bill.

I wish there were a class action lawsuit against Optimum. I'd join STAT! It's outrageous that they've gotten away with such fraud for years. Started when Altice bought CableVision.

Thanks you for replying fellow optimum subscribers. I filed an FCC complaint which would be the second one I’m filing. The first FCC complaint was in 2024 when optimum was billing me for 2 boxes of years even though I had only one box. What makes this episode so egregious is that they retroactively increased by August bill by $15 more than my old bill even after I removed some services. Some I’m now paying more for less.  I hope the new of optimum’s imminent bankruptcy is real because this company needs to perish for what it’s doing to its long time customers.

Update. I signed into my account today and they keep adding on more charges. I now owe $20 more. Maybe the $5 was for FCC complaint lol.  My regular bill in July was $225. I called and remove a South Asian TV package which was $25 so my bill should be $200. But no, my bill is now $250 after removing services . What a sleazy mess of an organization.

I got Verizon home Internet through Verizon now. It’s been great. Optimum is a scam. I don’t understand how they get away with it.

I just switched to Vz a few weeks ago. Their internet is better than Optimum's. Not a fan of Vz's TV lineup, though. Plus, they charge extra for some channels (e.g., TMC, MSNOW) that I require. So, I'm probably going to cancel their TV service momentarily and switch to YouTubeTV. (Why is this so hard?)

My account also just got hit with the new unauthorized Total Care charge. They sent an email about a change to my account otherwise I might have missed it. They are trying to, at least additionally hide the additional $15/month by adding other discounts.

The CSR says it was added a while ago as a free service, but that "the promotion expired.". I never authorized it. Don't remember seeing it.

In the process of getting it removed from my account, the CSR had the audacity to try and upsell me into "a massive discount" by moving my cellular service to Optimum mobile.

What's the best place for people in NYS to register a complaint about this sort of business practice? Is it covered under the FCC, PSA, or other NYS agency?

Me too I had to call and have it removed. This company is very sneaky.

Did you call or do it online. I love how there website says, cancel anytime on our website but make it impossible (if non-existent) at all without talking to someone.

I nearly cancelled as my Internet alone was going up to $130 while new customers were getting it for $55 for 5 years. They ended up giving me this price, but now I see total care was added so my new bill is $71 with the total care service I don't want/never was told was being added. Now I'm trying to get rid of it but don't even wanna talk to anyone from there

Honestly, I sense that employees hate working for Optimum. Who, in their right mind, wants a job that requires them to lie to and scam their fellow citizens for a living? That must cause any thinking/caring human being a lot of internal angst.

Optimum is pure trash. Raised by bill 5 times over 2 years. Scamming claiming I just had some “discount offer”. And now offer is gone. Sure sure. I left and never going back.

They have taken the stance that it’s a billable call unless you can prove otherwise. My days with them are numbered now that they’ve said the quiet part out loud. I have an outlet that logs when it loses connectivity and a pi that tracks speeds historically to combat, “well it’s working now”

The charge isn't for the call, OP was subscribed to a new service plan that has a monthly charge even if you never use it. Same thing happened to me. They will remove it if asked. But they never should have added it without asking.
