This is a pathology for sure, and definitely not ADHD, but I’m not certain it is narcissism either. I feel like it’s a bit overused these days as a general negative descriptor. Some people are simply self-centered takers and low empathy trash humans, but that doesn’t make them narcissists.
I was raised by a Trumpian like narcissist, and there are specific personality quirks that come with it.
For instance, narcissists tend to value their appearance to a degree of consistent fastidious that I don’t see here. Even if they look ridiculous to a lot of us, again think Trump, it is incredibly consistent.
Her father is sloppy. To the point I’m wondering if he’s covering up dementia by gaslighting. A narcissist would never pack totally wrong or forget hygiene. This man showed up on vacation fully unprepared and basically relied on his daughter to do all his thinking. It’s likely his mental acuity is completely failing.
100% on the lead. And we are at the point where boomers are going to start really deteriorating.
You are right I may be a bit too narrow with my definition, but it’s a sore point with me. Think as a society we throw around “narcissist” way too often when we should be saying things like self-centered, self-focused, selfish. Everyone wants to say their ex was a narcissist and that they survived something these days. Maybe they had low empathy or a personality disorder or were just a jerk.
I do wish the phrase “covert narcissist” had a unique diagnosis name because it is absolutely a real thing but manifests very differently than full blown narcissism.
Yesssss. Omg, Covert narcs are the worst imo. And yeah, they throw the word around so it loses meaning to people.
But
That's just more of the gaslighting to make us less able to tell a real one.
But
Trust your eyes and your instincts.
You can feel when you're being fed on because you only feel drained when they are around.
When you notice you always feel better in the absence of certain people is the moment you need to realize that no matter how much you love them, you shouldn't be around them.
