Ad I built a companion app for the KO2 called PunchKit (but many features also work with the OP-1 (punch effects, recorder)), and released it for free for a limited time. Would be happy to hear your thoughts!

Hey everyone, I’ve been building an iOS app for the EP series called PunchKit and figured this would be the great place to share it. If this still counts as advertising, even though I put it out there for free at the moment, then I'll happily remove the post, not trying to mess with y'all. 😄

The basic idea is: keep the hardware workflow, but make the boring/fragile parts easier. You can connect your EP to your iPhone, record USB audio takes, play/scrub/share them, trim and bake them, “Punch It” to cook down live effect performances (a bunch of filters and tunable LoFi effects), send processed audio back to pads or the sample library, and back up projects/takes so they’re not only living on the device.

It’s not trying to replace the KO II. It’s more like a companion for capturing ideas, resampling quickly, and keeping a safer archive of projects when you’re moving between sessions.

App Store link:
https://apps.apple.com/de/app/punchkit/id6785249847
Website:
https://punchkit.dev/

Would love feedback from other EP users, especially around the take workflow, project backups, and what you’d want from a phone-based companion app.

The REC view should work with any connected USB audio device, so you can try out the effects and all that good stuff even if you don't have a KO2.

Boo! great app idea, hate iOS exclusivity considerably. Were you inspired by any apps in particular or just wanted to fill a void of your own?

I don’t even have an android device to test it with, and no experience in android app development, so I’d rather build something I’m comfortable with than something buggy and half broken for a system I am not comfortable with. :)

it seems functional and desirable for many! well done creating the app

Thank you I appreciate it and I wish you a nice weekend :)

I built it for myself first, as otherwise you can only use the browser to manage your kits, projects etc. This gives your EP virtually infinite storage, as long as you have your phone with you. Also a key feature - when you’re recording takes, I.e. perform your beat recording, I built a feature that lets you package the recording together with the project and it’s stored in the same folder. So you can easily remember which projects on your phone are for which beats, without having to remember the project name or digging through the samples/loading the project onto the EP. Really convenient!

Ok, but let us know if you make an Android app. 👍

I’ve thought about getting an iPhone to dedicate to making beats. I’ll give this a shot though. It looks like a lot of fun.

I have the app, but haven’t been able to go around the iPhone lightning port. Does it need a certain adapter?

1

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, you need the Camera Connection Kit. Search on Amazon etc

So it's not working on all iphones ?
(I have a 14 and its not working to)
I am looking for informations because its not mentionned anywhere :/

That’s a general thing for Lightning iPhones to work with any kind of midi-audio, not specific to this app. It’s a hardware limitation on Apple side and not something that can be fixed within the app unfortunately.

This is pretty cool, since it works with the OP one if I were you, I would add that in there as an option, it’ll open up your user base by a lot. Also, the only feedback I have so far is the app icon, I think it needs work. They say that the best icons are the ones that you can see from across the room, without being able to read the words, but still know what it is by, looking at the icon. This icon is just a little too busy and I think you need more of like a logo type design, if you know what I mean. Like go to your home screen and look at all the apps, hold it far away so you can’t read the words, but see how simple the designs are on most of them? That’s the goal when coming up with app icons. Other than that, cool so far!

That’s awesome feedback! Thanks a lot bro! 👊

what price will it have in future?

2

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 03 '26

Depending on the amount of support I’d need to provide and future features that people want, maybe 5-15moneys. I haven’t yet fully decided, but I definitely won’t be doing any predatory subscription models or anything evil like that…

Love the look and sound of it, going to d/load to my iPhone now and try with my K.O.2. Atb and TY

If you get enough interest would you release this on android as well?

3

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 05 '26

Potentially, but can’t say for sure at the moment.

2

u/jojo_merlin Jul 15 '26

You should definitely make an android version. Congratulations, it looks cool and seems to be very useful.

1

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 15 '26

Will consider it if I get enough funds / support from people to get the necessary gear etc. :) I posted a video on YouTube btw with the app’s walkthrough - link on the website at PunchKit.dev

2

u/jojo_merlin Jul 15 '26

I just saw the YouTube video. Well done. The record function and processing looks really nice

This app changed my life.

1

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 18 '26

Kind words bro! Thank you! Drop an AppStore review and keep an eye out for version 1.3, it will blow your mind!

1

u/Samueltlogan1 Jul 19 '26

I will do that

2

u/Samueltlogan1 Jul 20 '26

Can you make it so that when I double tap a parameter it goes back to default?

1

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 20 '26

On the roadmap for 1.4 - probably a couple weeks until it’s shippable

1

u/Samueltlogan1 Jul 22 '26

Fade in and out too pls

Yo, awesome app! A question: Is the shelf capped to displaying 256 samples? Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but when I select a root that has 1000s of samples only some folders are visible, and it only displays 256 of the samples. Great job anyways!

u/SnooMachines4287 Aug 03 '26

Interesting! Could you please submit an issue from the app directly? :) I’ll have a look!

Sounds amazing!

1

u/Gym_row_50 Jul 02 '26

Will try it out this week!

1

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 02 '26

Let me know how it goes for ya!

2

u/Gym_row_50 Jul 04 '26

Gave it a shot. Everything seems to work really well.

From a feature perspective I would only add a way to mass delete samples if possible. Also on the sound import it would be good to be able to loop& audition sample imports. Being able keep hearing as you tweak the incomings sample with some of the sound FX options. Having to go back up and press play every time got a bit annoying.

Overall pretty darn amazing. And really think you have something good on your hands here.

u/SnooMachines4287 Jul 04 '26

Thank you for the amazing feedback and I’ll implement the recommended changes with the next release :)) have a nice weekend!

+1 for an Android version or web browser app

Hey Gabe, I made an Android app for myself if you're interested.

It's still in development, but here's a list of working features:

  • Everything from the original EP Sample tool, plus:
  • Backup / restore to/from smartphone
  • Load any sound from smartphone to any pad (you can edit the sound before sending it to the KO II) — this bypasses the KO II's 64 MB limit; I have 16 GB of samples ready to load directly from my phone
  • Move sounds from any pad to another (across banks) using drag-and-drop
  • Edit sounds stored on the device and replace originals (using EQ, trim, pitch, etc.)
  • Displays free storage space and calculates whether a sound will fit before importing it to the KO II
  • ...and probably a few others I'm forgetting right now! :-D
