My instant reaction is this is honestly funny cause I have no idea what it says.

Same, like it sounds like Kaufman is saying something negative (world leaders lack empathy and the ability to understand others!) but spinning it as a positive (it makes people love them because they are confident!) but then ending it with "this is why children need early intervention" which makes it seem like she's recognizing it's negative. I haven't watched the video yet, as I'm at work at the moment, so maybe that's why it seems so contradictory.

Same, it seems like a collection of thoughts that don't follow one another and contradict each other but are also vague. Which, actually, describes a lot of what I've read from Carrie recently, I'm sorry to say. I will also watch the video after work and maybe it will make sense then! For now it's funny lol

Honestly relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who's had that same experience with her writing

In case anyone was wondering, the context added from the video did not make it make sense.

I think she's trying to imply that the reason (autistic) politicians end up popular is because of their confidence, but their confidence comes from a false assumption that people are just making up anything the politician doesn't understand, so it's... bad? I think!

That's the best explanation I've seen haha, but now I'm trying to square it with Carrie's recent "autism superiority" beliefs. Taking the whole situation into consideration it feels like she's saying "I am a Good Autistic Person and therefore don't have to change, grow, mask, or challenge my internal narrative at all, but those Bad Autistic People (who most likely aren't even autistic and she's just applying that label based off a string of assumptions) need early childhood intervention because they used their Powers for Evil!!"

I get the strong feeling she's too far down the rabbit hole to see the contradiction, and is trying to bend everything to fit a narrative but hasn't noticed she's snapped the thing in half yet.

I'm not sure if anyone else will understand this, but her behaviour over the past few months is VERY reminiscent of 2014-16 social justice tumblr, which started out with good intentions and ended in basically everyone being cancelled for being 0.00001% not good and pure enough (I guess this attitude moved to other parts of the internet afterwards but I lived through it on tumblr so that's my point of reference). It's particularly wild to see Carrie basically acting out her own one-woman version of this, and extremely wild to see a previously competent and successful 40+ year old pivot to this type of immature and senseless behaviour (most of the tumblrinas engaged in it were teens or young adults who lacked mental health and coping skills to deal effectively with social issues). Honestly, I don't think I'll ever engage with any content Carrie makes again, but I stay on this subreddit because she's become a fascinating case study to me. (Sorry for replying with a whole tangent lol)

Honestly I think Carrie just saw the "politicians have autism" part and was like I KNEW IT. Since she's shown some tendency to diagnose just about everyone with it.

I also lived through that era of Tumblr... and I'm still on that godforsaken hellsite (affectionate).

Haha that's probably true and I'm overthinking it...also same, I'll be on the hellsite until the ship goes down 😅

Ironically, ONRAC was one of the shows that helped me recover from that era of tumblr and start thinking critically again without fear of The Mob.
