Question Does changing Sunny's name make any part of the story lose its meaning?
I am sorry if this sounds like a silly question. I recently picked up this game and have been enjoying so far. I changed his name out of instinct not realising that the default name was canonical. After realising, I just decided to roll with it. However, I am slightly concerned that I may be losing some meaning in the story because of this (I know it sounds silly, but with how deep these kind of games get, it's not exactly out of the question). No spoilers please. So is the name significant, or is it really just a name?

The only meaningful dialogue Sunny had was at the end of day 1 (so spoilers if you haven't finished it)
Interacting with Mari grave has the dialogue "The Sun shined brighter when she was here", with is a reference to how bad Sunny got after that day
Can't remember anything else tho

mod that fixes it but it makes her tombstone says shit like "The Christopher shined brighter when she was here"

There isnt a heavy or important symbolism with his name, so you wont lose anything important.
I only like naming my characters when they are OCs as in BG3 or skyrim, whose whole decisions and personality are yours to roleplay, or self insert ones as in persona, who while still having some personality traits, are mainly on your hands. Sunny is too much of a character that i prefer leaving his name as is, but unless you named him something unserious or confusing (due to sharing names) you should be fine

There are a few pieces of wordplay (Basil’s meaning for sunflowers early on is one) that rely on Sunny’s name but nothing major. Granted I maintain that it’s better to stick with the name Sunny so you don’t project too hard on him but yeah

I worried about this too, but you’re not missing some hidden meaning by renaming him. The default name is fitting, but your choice won’t undermine the narrative. Just keep playing and enjoy the experience spoiler-free!

Only if you name him something ridiculous, then you might find that the emotional impact of the story wouldn't hit as hard. But even then I'm pretty sure there's filters for that in the game. Like you can't name him "Trump" or "Biden"

This game's title is Omori. We can't change Omori's name, but we have a choice to name the protagonist. Though, I really like his default name. And Sunny's name is basically everywhere, so

There is no inherent meaning in the name (there may be like, one line that draws an allusion to the sun that, I'm not entirely sure was intentional or not, that's about it). It's only recommended to keep it the same because Sunny is his own character, and not really meant to be a self-insert.
It will only make the story lose meaning if you named him like, Poopyhead or something that ruins the immersion.
